Lisakay - how awful, its the not knowing thats probably the hardest bit you are right, at least if you know you can plan. I am not a person that can wait I need action, so I appreciate how hard it is for you. In situations like this I usually work to the worst case scenario and adjust if things work slightly differently. ((hugs))
PAH - I think MrsLW hit it spot on, you have to find a way of getting into a less structured piece with them, its really hard though, any established group is difficult to break into but one that hasnt had a new member for six years is going to be SAS type tough.
I have to say there may well be a reason they havent had a new member for six years - they may simply be happy as the group they are, so looking at others is a good idea.
Softstuff - we really have missed you, take care and pop in when you are able.
cheapskate - I often think that to, in RL people seem oblivious to the troubles others are having or they allocate an acceptable time to spend on the issue and then their quota of interest dries up. A lady I know is struggling with stuff and the people who were two months ago, egging her on to go and confront the problem (school) are now bored of it all and ignoring her.
Off to do school run now then catch up with an old friend - am so anti social at the moment, am wondering how long till I can reasonably leave and come home to nap!!0 -
Tryingtobethrifty - I'll PM you and give you my phone number, we're on the same area code and it will be a local call. If you're ever really fed up then you can phone me and I'll probably finish you off
Ollycob, what do you mean, how does what work?
If it gets as bad as 2010 again please just finish me off and I'll get dh to pay you with toilet rolls and tinned tomatoes :rotfl:
I do moan about that year, but had prepared so well for last winter that I was quite annoyed we didn't get the heavy snow. You just can't win
Edit to say: Thanks to this forum I have just missed the bus which only comes every half an hour. So addictive!"A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.

TTBT is the only person as far as I know, on this forum who lives near me. I'm a wee bit further out but on the same road. It's great having an MSE neighbour0
-
thats great Mar/TTBT I'm hoping to meet a few locals when I go to our meet
Lisa so sorry to hear your news
*waves at softstuff*
Having another tidyup day today..think its because I have DS2's dreaded DLA forms to do..it helps me avoid them for a day or two:o
Have a great day all0 -
Good morning.
I thought about going to our WI but I'm not strong enough socially for it yet. It's the meeting to find out about helping with the new food bank that is opening locally tonight. I'm not goingI have found out who is running it and I don't at all like him - very condescending, opinionated and well, bossy! I don't need anyone like that in my life getting me down. So that is not for me.
I was going to try drying out a string of apples (been earwigging in MrsL and Mar's convo's again) but the sun isn't shining on my window sill.
I've dishes to wash, bread to make, veg to prepare and a bathroom to clean and then I'm going to chill and enjoy a few hours peace and quiet. I might just have another attempt at knitting socks.0 -
:hello: Nice to meet you, Ollycob. Think if it as an ongoing chat and just pop in and out.
Glad to hear from you, Softstuff, hope the new medical regime sorts you out.
Well, yesterday after a pig of a day at the saltmine, I consoled myself with the thought that today would be better then remembered that I has a smear booked first thing. Urggh. At least it's done and the day can only improve from now on. Very small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, but one of my least favourite things; I prefer going to the dentist tbh.
Oh, and whilst I was at the surgery, they had the flu jab posters up so I booked mine (pre-existing medical conditions meant the consultant said I should have 'em) so anyone who has them needs to get theirs booked. Is it me, or are they started the flu jab season a bit early this year? The first clinic is the end of the month.((((lisakay)))) that's a scary worrying thing about your OH's job. It really makes me mad when employers do those kind of announcements that tell you something really bad but without enough detail for you to know what you should be doing at your end. Hoping that it isn't as bad as a job loss.
Got several garments I could be ironing (at least 10 minutes' worth, VJsMum! ) but I shall ignore them until after w*rk. I may ignore them later, as well, but probably not.
Fuddle, I think the leccy used by fairylights is negliable, and given how heartening they are, I'd twinke to your heart's content. I think they're so pretty and I know several people who have them up year-round.
Right, bit more t'internet then off to t'office. Another day, another dolour, as an American president (almost) said.

Been lurking a lot, but reading most days. Folks are having a tough time and I reckon it's going to be an even tougher winter. Sorry to be so downbeat, but with all the crop failures I can see prices just going up and up. I'm trying to stockpile on non perishables (our pension isn't going to keep up with inflation) when they're on special offer - but hubby keeps saying "we've got plenty of those, why do we need more" and just doesn't seem to understand. "We'll have a cheap shop this week, put those toilet rolls/tins back, we don't need them" - but they're on a good offer!
More education needed methinks - or maybe I should just leave him at home?!
Oh wow, just heard they've found human remains in the Leicester car park where they think Richard III might be buried. How exciting!!!!!
Hugs to all who need them, chin up girls (I was born during WWll)Normal people worry me.0 -
Hobson's Choice, DS's homework (he is 10) is to bring in an artefact from WW2 which has been handed down the family (which I think is rather unfair as we don't have one and I'm sure lots of others don't). What we do have is a book my uncle self-published about my family history, and he gave my son a copy - there's a picture of him at the back, he was only 18 months when it was written. It's fascinating stuff, as he's managed to trace us right back to the potato famine (let's hope things don't get that bad), but there's also a few pages about my great uncles - five brothers who went off to war and all managed to come back again. 4 were in the army, in Normandy on D day, in Burma, liberating concentration camps (about which he never spoke for the rest of his life), and one was in the navy and on the ship which sank the Bismarck and was involved in the Normandy landings. So I reckon this counts as a WW2 artefact of memories at least, and it has gone in to school with him today.
Brrrr, it's got very cold here today, I'm having to wear a cardigan for the first time in ages.
Sorry LisaKay I missed your post. Fingers crossed for your OH, it really sucks the way they've been told.0 -

Seems that things haven't changed with regard to job loss announcements. Have gone through 2 of these: one where one of 2 offices was to be closed then the entire organisation being slimmed down, merged and reorganised. I remember those days of endless gossip and speculation about what might be happening, fuelled by another round of speculation going off in a different direction, when an official announcement was made.:(
I suppose the only thing I can suggest is keep cards close to chest at work and plan what you're going to do if the worst comes to the worst. Implement all the Old Style stuff that's pertinent to you.
