Hi Glam Girl, I know exactly how you feel about treats disappearing, so what I do is leave a few out for immediate treats and then freeze the rest and bring out for lunchboxes or whatever. I read of somebody who had a big tub in their fridge for lunchbox stuff and everyone knew they weren't allowed to take stuff out of it, I might incorporate that idea.
Need to plan what to bake for lunchboxes this weekend since last week's treats were rejected, but banana cake definitely has to be in there as I have 3 very sorry looking bananas to use up. Needless to say, DD doesn't like it but everyone else does, especially when still hot!

I literally just washed up an old ice cream tub so I will start doing this today. Thanks!

Hi Possession, how about some banana muffins instead of banana loaf /cake? You can add extra dried fruit in the mix. There is a recipe on the GC recipe index.

Thanks Mrs CD but I have banana muffins in the freezer and DD doesn't like those either. :o I might have to give in and make chocolate muffins or something, but hoping she will like apple flapjacks.
  • Mar I have put a list of my books that are, I think, helpful for Make, Do and Mend on storecupboarding site under books, not finished list yet as not dug out all the books but those there so far are ones I have been using lately. You can find the link via my blog - its on the first page, just scroll down as I cannot put link here to any site I own.

Wartime Farm book not there as it has not arrived yet - they don't rush the book people people, its done to be delivered by 11th.

Nothing else on the site yet as slowly working out how I am going to present everything.

Sunny here today but chilly for all that sadly, but at least its nice to see sunshine instead of the horrible grey clouds we have had so much of this year.

    Hi everyone :)

Apologises in advance if I make even less sense than normal. An Indian family on the next street have a wedding going on and the party last night included drumming until 2am. We are quite a distance away and I could hear it with all the windows shut and ear plugs in.... I got up at 1.30am and went and complained. DH was too chicken too. They were very polite, but I think they could tell that my patience was wearing very thin. Add in DH getting called out at 4.30am and I didn't get a lot of sleep. The actual wedding is today so goodness knows what time I will get to sleep.
I had to get up to sort of the fridge and freezer for the Sainsburys delivery. It turns out the meat offer is now 2 for £10 instead of the 2 for £5 I ordered it at yesterday. So I spent 20 minutes on the phone to customer services and got £45 refunded. It should have been £50, but I miscalculated the number of deals I had. I don't have the energy to phone and deal with the shortfall today. Some of it was for my friends I hasten to add.
The fridge and freezers are now bulging and I really need to meal plan and use some of it. I view food as security so fill all storage space to overflowing and then don't use it as I don't want the security blanket to go away. When DH is awake I'm going to get him to go through everything with me and help me work out what to cook. I really need my hand holding through it all.

Hi Glam girl *waves* I can understand your problem. DH and DS2 can eat for England and can spot a cake tin at 200 yards. I have trained them to eat from certain tins and to ask of I haven't given permission to raid at will. I do freeze banana cake for DS2 as he has it for breakfast and I make it in bulk.

I'd better go and find something for lunch and to see what time DH wants to emerge.

    Take care xxxxx

That is interesting. I live in a touristy place absolutely full of tea shops and I must say they often look busy. I don't really care about having 50 different types of tea though, I'd rather have PG Tips! I'm class, me.
Right banana cake, treacle apple flapjacks and strawberry muffins made.
  • Well I had all good intentions of doing lots today. But I have been up half the night with my shoulder.Even the meds are not working.:(
    So like you Mrs Chip
I am just looking around the net in between reading the Nella Last book.
The OH went shopping this morning for me, I dont mind him doing it as he only gets what is on the list.

For anyone who has never seen it, here is a link to 'The Wartime Kitchen and Garden' a series with Ruth Mott who died only recently.....

    :j THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks SDG for highlighting the Pork offer in Mr M's and others who helped me find it, finally, by practically holding my hand and pointing it out to me. :rotfl:

I was a girl with a goal, a (wo)man with a mission, a lady with a [STRIKE]lamp[/STRIKE] l.....ler....whatever, this morning, out at the crack of dawn, and what did I find...HUGE advertising posters, HUGE piles of Pork Shoulder...how did I miss it yesterday? :rotfl:

So, now if you could just help me work out how to fit 7 (cut down from 3) joints of pork into an already overflowing freezer, I'd be ever so grateful

....I may be gone some time.....:rotfl:

And a quaint american film about rationing in Britain .

Thanks Mrs LW I have just sat here and watched these, should be going out shopping. Shame the whole series hasn't been uploaded, never saw it first time round.

I have ordered the book Ruth was using Food Facts for the Home Front as certainly looks useful, managed to get it via prime delivery for £2.27 so should be here Monday, looking forward to it.

    Hugs and Love to allxxxx
