Thanks Grandma. Not looking forward to that job much then!:rotfl:0 -
Didn't get my wine started yesterday due to a lack of brewing yeast, have ordered it alongside some citric acid etc also found some plastic demijohns for a great price ( with bungs and lids) so ordered a few to see if they're going to be something DH can lift, the glass ones are to much for him now.
Where did you order from pooky? I struggled to find somewhere that were'nt charging the earth for a rubber bung and airlock  sussed it in the end but ended up spending £9 on said bung and airlock, wine yeast, demijohn cleaning brush and syphon.grandma247 wrote: »
Thank you
pooky someone posted http://www.organicplants.co.uk a little while ago (sorry I can't remember who it was) It looks ok for those of us gardening small scale

I know a machine will definitely get through the plastic of the sticky velcro as I made the girls some bags with velcro fastenings. Do you have a machine P?0 -

I don't have a machine. I'm rubbish at sewing. But if the worst happens I'm going to my parents' house for my nephew's christening in a few weeks and my mum has one.

Velcro sews easily and stays sewn whether you use hand or machine although I'd be tempted to use a machine if you can get to one.
I always unpick Velcro and save it and actually re-use it. Fabulous stuff and can often be found when you cannibalise otherwise outworn clothing/ bags destined for scrapping. HTH.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Personally P I don't know if a hand sewing needle would get through the plastic backing. A machine no problem though so no worries... Mum!
Can't help but worry a bit about the food hikes now it's public knowledge. I've a store cupboard and a half decent one but my stocks are not any where near as healthy as I would like just yet.
Been looking at my gas and electric tariff. I've stayed with British Gas, I have to, I have arrears still but notice that the tariff has changed. I no longer have two tiers :T but I have a daily standing chargeSo even when I'm not using energy I'm still paying for it
Is this a new thing or quite normal? It's only pence daily, but still

Thanks Possession! I will tell OH, who is responsible for accounts. He keeps saying we need not claim it yet, but I think otherwise!
I think you will need to sew on the velcro, sorry!

We have some sun too!
I will ask DH exactly what the scheme is and if it has an official name, but yes you should claim it from the first time you do your accounts and it is a small fixed percentage that supposedly covers everything - much much easier than trying to work out actual percentages used for business from real bills. Will get back to you.
***Grrr*** about the sewing. I hate sewing! I'm going to be thrown off this OS board, I can tell. How can I be an OSer if I don't sew?!
Fuddle it is relatively common to have a daily charge, at least it used to be. If you look on moneysupermarket etc at the different tariffs, some will say no standing charge and some won't. Might be worth giving them a call to see if you can go on a different tariff now you've got your arrears down a bit? Have to admit the whole area confuses the hell out of me.0 -
Another lurker sometime poster here
I'm 65 (till next week). I have a DS 35, DH died nearly 4 years ago and DD 8 years ago, was married for 42 years
I was born in Surrey, moved to Lowestoft 40 years ago then sold up and moved to Lincolnshire 15 months ago to be nearer DS. I live in a 2 bed semi detached cosy bungalow, which I am slowly decorating.
I can decorate, tile, sew and knit, but crochet defeated me, love reading, and play short mat bowls. Not keen on gardening but gradually making it low maintenance. Cook mainly from scratch.
I'm 5' 5" size 18, grey hair and wear glasses.
We were never big wage earners, but being a Virgo have always been careful with money, and when DH had to retire early due to ill health had just paid off the mortgage. Struggled when the children were young but always managed to put food on the table, didn't have holidays abroad or lots of luxuries and felt guilty at times, but after reading about many of you on here realise that we were not the only ones.

That's what I love about here. At work, where everyone is full time, and has either a double income (husband/wife) or still lives with their parents, I am definitely the poor church mouse, but here I am just one of the people"There is no substitute for time."
