I would be complaining loudly about the no coats past the gate rul particularly as the teachers feel it ok for them to wear them!!! Personally I might not have a leg to stand on as my 2 are of the t shirts in all weathers brigade - partly due to the JS which means they are often too warm, partly natural inclination inherited from their dad who is also in the t shirt brigade whilst I tend to be cuddled up in several layers! I would feel I had to complain though on behalf of others who may be less bolshy than I have been known to be!
Pooky - I am mad on your behalf! How utterly rude.
Been to church this morning and now having leftovers lunch - using up all the little bits in the fridge before the shopping comes tomorrow.0 -
Is it possible to freeze:
cheese
yoghurt
fromage frais
cream
margerine/butter
successfully?0 -
Yes to all fuddle! Sometimes yoghurt loses its consistency (needs a good stir) but it's fine to eat.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

FUDDLE - Cheese freezes very well I usually grate it first then there is no need to defrost it, just give the bag a whack and get out however much you need. Butter yes, never tried with margarine but someone else probably has. Cream freezes well but doesn't keep for long when you get it out again, I've found it best to use it straight away as soon as it's defrosted. Yoghurt I don't know but probably OK also fromage frais but again someone else is bound to know. Cheers Lyn x.0

Hi everyone, I've not been posting for a while, as we had DGS7 and DGD10 for a while so not able to spend time keeping up with all news here.
Recovering now, it was fun while it lasted, now DH, doggins and I can enjoy the peace! We dont see them often so appreciate it when they can stay for a while, and hope DS and DIL enjoyed the rest.
What a busy social life they have these days, I thought they were tired, though just back 3 days from a holiday in France (where they both had caught bad colds)I'm afraid I sent them off to bed every night at the time their Mum said, and DH backed me up, so there was no argument. Their Mum was quite surprised they went easily, they may be reluctant to come next holiday ('they make us go to bed early!')
All you Mums certainly have my sympathy, what a nightmare the shops can be when so busy, and the poor kids frustrated but needing to try on shoes etc. Need plenty of Vit B (for stress), deep breathing out, etc. They grow up so quickly, its cruel that it can be so difficult sometimes making sure they have all they need.
Have booked a short holiday as DH is on new medication and finding side effects difficult - I dont want his blood pressure to suffer. We have booked about 4 hours drive away, self catering cottage in a forestry area with lots of short walking trails. We are taking Doggins with us for the first time - since our other little dog died, I cant bear the thought of puting him in kennels on his own. Only trouble is he tends to cry in the car.... a lot!
Hope you all get a nice relaxing Sunday, weather sunny/cloudy here, but may be bad tomorrow.0 -
Brilliant
I have gone to make some scones, no natural yoghurt... plenty of kids' fromage frais that is about to go out of date so they need to hurry with it. Decided to make a cheese cake... no mascarpone. Kids wanted to make blackberry ice cream, again no cream nor yoghurt.
Thought if I could freeze the lot then it's there at hand and with a little defrost forethought viola.
DH gone to Aldi to get me some eggs for yorkshires. Shame you can't freeze eggs! I'm normally so organised.0 -

Byatt:- I am crying with laughter at your link! What a great way to start the day! :T
Today I am doing that strange ritual of cleaning the house because you are going on holiday! Don't laugh! I bet you all do it too! It's that coming home to a nice fresh bed and I don't know what, but I know you all know what I mean. :rotfl:
Because it was so wet yesterday I decided that Liver and Onions would be just the job for dinner today. And yes, we have blazing sunshine and high temps forecast for all day! Ya cannit win!And I thought it was just me! My flat is never more clean and tidy than when I'm going away.
Today there has been a new arrival in the extended family; I bought Mum another 4 wheeled trolley (a Marketeer) from the car boot sale for 4.50 (stupid borrowed key board hasn't got a findable pound sign either). Mum is thrilled; she has one already but it's on it's last legs and she jokingly said she'd have Jiffy and I corrected her on that PDQ as you may imagine. Trolley has been barely used so very good condition.
Other than that, got some lovely (academic type) books and some homemade soap and feeling chilled out. Sent Mum to spend the morning in the recliner reading the newspaper as she sometimes forgets she's 70 and runs around like a young gal and then gets overtired.
This afternoon we had a wee poke into the "woodshed" one of the 3 in her back garden and pulled out a 4 foot x 17 inch scrap of MDF to which she''' attach the set of casters from Poundland and then I shall have another underbed rolling trolley for my larder. All chilling in our several different ways and then doing some more family stuff.

Fuddle,
I keep reading on MSE that you can put those in the freezer and they will last but others probably know better than me.
I have even heard some tv cooks say that cheese does not necessarily have to go into a fridge but I find often if it doesn't it starts to sweat or have a dampness about it...
I answered before reading the rest of the thread...told you others would know the answers...
I never seem to seem to find a car boot sale or a farm shop GQ, Then again it would probably mean using a taxi or trying to find transport. Spending more money and if income decreases as I worry/suspect it will, I won't have any spare anyhow...
My food store I think is almost complete, the fridge/freezer is full as are most cupboards and the pantry in the kitchen.
What I probably need now are new mattresses and I am afraid my lovely teeth are not lovely anymore so I need what's left removing and a nice new set of dentures(sadly)just lost a front tooth last night and another won't be far behind...
Lots of broken bits to be removedlots of work to be done and it ain't going to be nice...hope I can get used to dentures. May make that my next big job but I don't really mind if I do it when I come into Mum's money or use any help now with being on benefits. No rush!
