Morning all! I am just off to take the dogs for a walk and then am going down to the allotments as the community allotment people have ordered a skip and we are going to clear all the rubbish off what was my plot :j.
Decluttered loads more stuff yesterday. I am going to spend some of the tax rebate on a bathroom cupboard to put my towels and bedding in. And I'm going to buy a new hat. I have to wear a hat whenever it is sunny due to me being a redhead, and wear a hat whenever it is chilly due to me having a shaved head. So it's time for a new one. That will be my treat. When I can be bothered to drag meself into town!
Byatt, have you tried looking at the Alzheimer's Society website? http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts/documents.php?categoryID=200343
There might be a branch near you, and they could maybe offer you some support, either practical or a listening ear for you to express your grief. There might also be a carers' organisation near you which might be worth looking up. I hope you are OK this morning. xxx
Kidcat, on your behalf. I can't understand how someone can be nasty when you are all in the same boat and struggling with your auties and the system. It is such a waste of energy and potential and now you are upset and have lost a support system which you need.
Meme, only ONE box of teabags? You are falling behind in your storecupboarding ..... :rotfl:
PAH if you want, I can check with the guy I got my budgeting club outline from. If it's OK with him (I guess it is his intellectual property), I can pass it on to you if you'd like? Maybe we could do a swap and you can send me some stuff about storecupboards? Ha maybe we could set ourselves up in business teaching a course called 'Surviving the hard times the old-style way' :rotfl:. Seriously though, there's no point re-inventing the wheel, and if you can get a grant to run some kind of course or group then it's worthwhile passing on info. You've given me an extra idea for our last session, so thank you.
Right, time to get off my bum and go and get started. Have a lovely day everyone xx.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

I've never had enough money in my entire life to worry about hiding it WCS, makes life a hell of a lot easier
But the RV has always kept his money in cash and then when the National Rock thing happened I thought maybe he's right and started doing the same. Although we haven't got loads.
EDITED - arggh lol Northern Rock I meant !0 -
Morning all, another lovely day here and I am going to walk to the greengrocers for some more lovely fruit, with it being so hot we seem to be going through masses of it, lucky the prices are so reasonable.
POPS - How nice to be reminded of 'Round the Horn', do you remember 'The Navy Lark' and 'The Clitheroe Kid'? that and 'Two Way Family Favourites' on the radio was my childhood on Sundays at lunchtime. We would prepare veg and cook while 2 Way Family Favourites was on and then eat while the comedy was on. I hadn't thought about it in years, but can't stop giggling now at some of the memories Thank You!!!!!!!
WCS - You haven't upset anyone, your opinion is as valid as anyone elses on this thread. We don't have to agree with each other all the time, we are all individuals with a different take on life . You have every right to say what you think. Wasn't it Voltaire who said ' I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it', - it's applicable to us all.
Happy birthday to your littlie FUDDLE, hope you all have a lovely day.
Have a nice day everyone, and if you're lucky enough to have some sunshine, take time to enjoy it !!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Thanks Possession. I will be back later to catch up.0

WCS
worry not, it's your opinion and you're certainly allowed to express it just like the rest of us. I agree that it's what it sounds like but knowing what I about prepaid credit cards the suggestion was made as a tool to plan for the future not to hide money.
With prepaids it would be impossible to hide anything. Its a credit card that is connected to your name and address, mine has a cash builder which is connected to my credit file and helps repair my credit history but with no risk to the lender as I have already paid.
I don't think for one second any of us mentioned these cards as a way of hiding money, me especially. I detest wrong doing and unfairness. I do agree that it's what it sounds like though but please let me assure you all that my involvement in the suggestion was purely to help someone save for the uncertain future. Try and hide money on a prepay and you will be found out and prosecuted for fraud. That much I'm certain.
hope to see you posting wcs, shame to see you not post over this0 -
Can anyone help with suggestions for marinade for pork ribs. I need it to be gluten and wheat free and all the recipes on the pork ribs marinade thread in rceipe index have soy sauce in. Thanks in advance for any help.0

Hi CAROLINE - Try giving them a soak in 1 tablespoon each of wine vinegar, honey/brown sugar, some fresh ginger, garlic to your taste and some fresh chillies. Comes out somewhere between thai and barbecue. Then hopefully enjoy!!!!! Cheers Lyn.0

For future ref you can get wheat free 'soy' sauce http://www.healthysupplies.co.uk/soy-sauce-organic-tamari-sanchi.html?gclid=CPm7uKye37ECFVMdtAodpmsAYg
There's more than one on the market, but I'm pretty sure I've bought this in Mr T. Try your local health food shop otherwise. Think Meridian is the other brand...

Morning All
Lovely here, warming up I think it is going to be hot here today...
I remember Round the Horn and all those other programmes - and if I ever hear the 'Two-way Family Favourites' sig tune it reminds me of cooking Sunday lunch with Mum.
Round the Horn was very very funny, and very risque for the time. I was a little bit too young to get the innuendo at the time, but enjoyed listening again in the 70's. If I ever hear 'Sing Something Simple' it reminds me of Sunday tea - winkles and cockles, salad and buttered Hovis, and salad cream! It is easy to forget how much we relied on the radio in the 60's.
Happy birthday to Miss Fuddle, I'm sure she will have a lovely day of home made goodies.
I have started buying more flour, for bread and baking, I think prices will go up soon and if I can buy enough to last us through to the next harvest we might avoid the price hike. I can't buy loads as it is damp here and we are prone to infestations but I will try to get one of the big plastic boxes filled. We will buy more tea too, we only have a cuppa a day each so don't need masses but again would not like to be paying more than needed. They are sealed in foil so should store well.
Hope everyone has a goo day today!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
One particularly good pack for bright crocheted blankets btw is the Lucy pack from Stylecraft. It's based on the colours used in many of the blankets on the Attic 24 blog. It's acrylic but that means very washable and great yardage, plus the colours are lovely. Good buy and you'll get a blanket out of one pack easily.
Brilliant, i'll have a look thank you.
Edit: I looked! I love! I love Lucy's stuff but don't have an eye for bright colours. I can be like Lucy nowHappy birthday to Miss Fuddle, I'm sure she will have a lovely day of home made goodies.
Thank you. I'm afraid notMy OS apron has been hung up, I'm smart and off to pizza hut for her birthday treat
Oh go on then i'll let a
out. I'm going to go fill me boots
:rotfl:;)
edit: possession lalaloopsy is currently diving off the couch along with Tom Daley
It's all over my facebook about people panicking with the price of bread. This is it, it's hitting the masses. It's nice to not have to worry too much, is it wrong to feel a little bit smug? I've decided that the garage freezer is staying switched on, I need all the storage I can get. Going to batch up a load of bread, smaller loaves so they will go in a day. I like not using a loaf tin. The round bread rocks.0
