Sheltered housing in a nearby town has been available to buy for a few years, a friend of my parents split form his wife (he was 57) and applied for a bedsit/flat within a sheltered block, he moved in as rented and then when they settled the divorce and he was paid out he applied to buy and was allowed to do so. Apparently almost the whole block is now privately owned, and there are no restrictions on who they sell to later, as a consequence there are people in there much younger than retirement and I believe its causing some issues.
I cannot for the life of me how that makes sense? But it seems as though sheltered accommodation will be phased out entirely.
Have woken to a very windy, dull dark day and its very depressing. Am tackling the washing but it looks like rain so odds are it will all need the dryer to sort.
Electric blanket - I bought one back when we had warm weather, it was three year guarantee, silent night or some such, dual controls etc and king size I paid £5 in Mr A so its worth a wander to see if any stores have any leftover, as at the time every Mr A I walked into had loads of them.0 -

I've been looking for ages but i keep missing the deals, i won;t buy one until i acually need it, we have wee wood burning stoove in this house which is new to us we havent had a fire for years so theres a good chance we won't need one.
I think gold is a fab idea i might acually do that myself when universal credits comes in, my mum works in h samuels so i get 30% off already. there is always a good chance you will make a loss with gold given how expensive it is now but not as much f a loss as i you would lossing all your money, were just hoping to have a plot before we need to get inventive.

Guess what arrived on the doormat this morning.....
A letter from ATOS asking DH to go in for his medical assessment. Bring it on!
I do love the "how to get here" advice sheet they supply with it which suggests he leaves at 7.05am takes 4 buses and walks between bus stops (a total of 41 minutes walking) in order to get to his appointment at 9.30am. If he were able to do that, he'd be at ruddy work!!!
Going to call them later to make sure they have the facilities to record the interview."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
How utterly ridiculous.
Take your own notebook too - seeing you noting everything down might make 'em nervous! Wishing you both luck.Guess what arrived on the doormat this morning.....

pooky is that not the first test in itself, anyone that actually manages to get there without fuss, they will assume they have used the route suggested and are therefore fit. I know it sounds cynical but I bet there are loads who struggle and kill themselves to get there using the route and then are found fit. No matter if they then cant move for a month afterwards.
Will whoever is going to gee Mar up pop over here later, my get up an go left me a long time ago and is now presumed MIA.0 -
Pooky why don't you take your own recording equipment?
Disgraceful that they are suggesting a sick/disabled person takes 4 buses and walks 41 minutes to get there.
Could I have some get up and go too, please? I'm feeling really low and grumpy today. All I want to do is eat and eat and eat and then go back to sleep.

I thought much the same thing as you did.
A psychology experiment years ago suggests we are programmed to answer "Yes" or "fine" and not make a fuss. For things like the box ticking at ATOS you need to change automatic responses and answer more in the negative.
Not suggesting lying just rather than the polite "Yes but it takes me so long" which ticks the Yes box - "No because it takes me so long"
Just about to get in shower to see if that wakes me up as dd has finally left house. Have learnt the hard way that just as I am sopping wet with shampoo in my eyes , she will call upstairs wanting something. Phone just rang so raced to grab it thinking it was one of dds - turned out to be a cold caller selling double glazing!!!
DH dug up some potatoes because I wanted to make wedges tonight and they were tiny so might just trawl through freezer in case I have anything in there instead."This site is addictive!"

Isn't it?! That has made me really cross.
However in an attempt to actually do something rather than seethe at the computer, i have put a chicken stew in the slow cooker. I added quite a bit of the stew and broth mix I got for pennies at AF, but having never used it before now I'm wondering what happens to the dried peas that are in it - do they turn into normalish peas or are they like marrowfat ones?
