I don't have a strong sense of smell so depend on looking as much as anything. Like GQ I have immune system problems so proabaly should be careful but I think you can be too careful...but what you are doing is fine...;)"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Are we due winds pops?
Speaking of slugs and snails Mar we appear to have something that leaves a trail visiting us in the living room overnight! I have no idea where it's coming from as the trail only appears mid carpet journey  Any idea what I can do?

Pops I would use that spice mix for a few years after that date as long as it smelled OK and wasn't clumped. I ignore many BB dates. And if I tell you that when icing cupcakes at my parents' house last week I found yellow food colouring that went out of date in 1994 you'll see where I get it from! Since there was hardly any left in the bottle I declined to use it and instead used the other bottle which went out of date in 1998.
Off to take DH to the station now for his interview, and then the tip to get rid of the bags of rubbish my children's rooms managed to generate. The upper floor must have a lot less weight on it now (although still 1000s of books up there so not much less).0 -
Mrs C if it carries on raining, kayaking will be the new driving!!! Is there no END to the blimming rain!!!
I'm also feeling like slug with hangover. Was really busy in market yesterday, took me an eternity to clear up when I got home, and had to do a bit of running around for the kids in the evening, fell into bed at 9.45, because I had to be up at 6am..this weeks B&Bers are early birds. Not complaining though...Also have picked up a booking for Fri/Sat nights.
Had bargains in Mr T last night...a £15 orchid for £3, a watermelon for 40p, and various things for instant dinner last night for 20p - 50p. Well pleased with the orchid, as I've one in the kitchen which is on it's second flush of flowers, and has been going strong for months, I bought that reduced to £4 IIRC. It's my belief that 'rescued' plants reward you by being extra especially prolific
Off to w*rk in a bit....

I had that problem in our old house - put down newspaper over night with slug pellets or liquid on it and then got downstairs early to dispose of sl*g

If I can find any oomph I'll share itStarted to sneeze and cough and it is August for heaven's sake!!! So going to coddle myself and have some tea. Will offer DH a cooked brekkie (well boied egg but he likes them) and see if youngest has surfaced and wants feeding yet.
Made home made microwave steamed puds from Jamie Oliver recipe last night which were quite nice and not too much of a faff. Everyone polished off the sausage, mash and gravy needing comfort food in this weather.
Might root around in freezer and find chicken pieces and try to marinade them for tonight - dds are disappointed now if I get anything pre prepared which I suppose is a compliment.
Is it bad I want to visualise PAH's door crumbling at the shock of a new lock? Despite the visit by bigwigs I would consider contacting MP. Shelter, CAB etc if at a later date the door becomes (as it has been for a long time) unsafe and not secure.
I really hope Byatt's ex makes his house or flat top of the range , using his own money and only then finds there is no right to buy. If anyone deserves something like a sheltered flat or at least a safe and comfortable one it is Byatt.
A tip on an American preparedness site was not to buy intricate or gem studded jewellery or even brand new but to look for simple hallmarked gold rings, chains or similar to hold its value.
The cash for gold sites disregard engravings, gems etc and just value on the weight and carat of the metal.
Hug and see you later
I got the ice cream maker from Aldi and it was reduced by £7 so have the base in my freezer and might try making ice cream tonight. The instructions suggest you mix up the ingredients and have them in the fridge for hours before setting the machine up so need to tackle that this morning."This site is addictive!"

Popperwell, I just got cheap ones from Am@zon, a trouser/jacket set for £13. They're propably not breathable but hopefully watertight and got good reviews. I only need them for an about 20 minute cycle ride.
P.S. gosh you're busy in this thread, have to try and catch up reading tonight.

Here it is Mar. All that trumpeting on the BBC about it finally shifting was a bit previous... I tend to think Kittie was right - 18th August until the weather settles for any length of timeThink big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

That makes good sense to me...when I sold some stuff a couple of years back, when I was the executor of a will, the jeweller didn't want any of it as 'jewellery' he just wanted the gold as scrap, and wouldn't take anything that had a stone in!

Congrats to all with good news :T lovely to read so much of it on here for a change.
No rain here, looks quite a promising day. Yesterday was silly warm and muggy, we had a rather expensive day out as a family and took a coach trip to the Harry Potter studio tour, it was simply amazing and well worth the money. It was the first big trip that DH has been able to do in over three years, he was doped up to the eyeballs and had his tens machine running for most of the day but he coped, just. The coach driver was great and really helpful with the wheel chair (unlike some of the people on the coach that just couldn't wait to get on or off and pushed past DH!!). If you're Potter fans then I'd highly recommend it. DD1 (16) cried as soon as we got there and most of the way round, she's grown up with the books and it really does symbolise her childhood.
Need to go fill the new freezer today, which will mean going to several different SM's in order to get the stuff I need....deep joy. Luckily my Mr T vouchers came in yesterday, they will help out lots.
PAH- so pleased the bigwigs came running, I can imagine the stressed conversations in that office!! Well done you."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
