lots of chat today!
Really worrying about price rises for winter - we have so little access to shops as it is, but my stores are growing steadily - must try harder though! We've had torrential rain here -really dreich - am kind of sick of it now,its chilly too.
Fuddle I have knit tights in the past - have a 4 ply pattern for knitted lacy ones - if you want a copy let me know and i'll search it out at the weekend.
Mar am loving that wool - looks a little like kidhaze which I love but which is itchy as heck. I'm crocheting with this

in between other projects - it's really pretty and will make a cosy extra layer in the winter.
So sad to read about the wee boy at Beamish,

Phew you guys can talk, I've only been gone since Friday! Had a very nice little hol with lovely weather and happy children. Though now after 3 late nights DD (7) is a tearful sensitive little monster at my parents' house, hopefully she'll be better tomorrow after a good sleep. My parents will take them on a day out, maybe Dickens World which they love and which will be very appropriate since they saw Oliver for the first time this afternoon. Parts of Dickens World are modelled on the sets of that film I think.
DH has a telephone interview tomorrow, and is supposed to have another interview on Friday despite telling the recruitment agent we were away this week. Hopefully they can rearrange, although it's on half the salary he had before, literally. It's hard to decide whether it would be good to have it just to have a job and have money coming in or whether it would be career suicide. Who can tell.
Fuddle, good news about the child-minding and I agree you should definitely charge whatever the going rate is. Sorry the Great Slug Invasion is continuing unabated. I can just imagine all those giant commander slugs giving them their orders to go out and conquer......0 -
PAH:- I don't think you are going to want anything hot in this weather. Easy pick up stuff are sausage rolls, pork pies, scotch eggs, crisps, fruit and yoghorts. Those pre-cooked mini sausages always go down well on our picnics too.
DH and I like a cheese, salami olives, sun-dried tomatoes and crusty bread picnic, not sure if your Grandchildren would appreciate that tho'
I am taking my Gchildren to a Teddy Bears picnic at Durham's Botanic Garden next week, fingers crossed it stays as nice as this.Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Hi all, Fuddle kindly linked me to this page. Will read through properly later, but any advice gratefully received. Thanks xMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Good morning, another nice day
Forgot to tell you I had an email yesterday from council childminding sector. There next course is in October and have put me on the waiting list. I've to do a first aid course and another course of some description and then I can apply to ofsted which they say will take 3 months. I don't envisage being anywhere near the final stages until spring next year which I'm happy about as it gives me time to get off the anti-d's
Bedding washing day as its so nice. Going to get the girls out on their bikes and look for some craft inspiration for them to do. Think I'll put some bubbles in the water pit for them.
Mam still here, mornings are the hardest as she's very moody on a morning.
Pork chops, peppercorn sauce carrots and chipped pots for tea.
I have my added stocks in the online asda trolley waiting for DH to be paid. The tinned carrots were 14p last week I'm sure. Last night they were 20p.
In truth my knitting skills are no where near knitting tights but it's stored in my 'I can be self sufficientish if and when I need to' part of my brain0 -
Yey, welcome esmf0

Morning FUDDLE - do the girls have a flower press, or a couple of heavy books you could use for this purpose, if they see anything pretty when they are out on the bike ride it is nice to pick a few flowers and press them to make cards or pictures later on when they are dry. The other thing I remember doing with mine is making pictures of snails (plenty of inspiration this year then!) from coiled string stuck on to paper. I hope that makes sense as I was awake very early this morning and am feeling a little brain foggy!!! Have a good day Cheers Lyn x.0

No string put plenty of wool!I used to have a flour press when I was a child and forgot all about it. There's a lot of stray looking poppies about at the moment and they think they are pretty. I'll hunt some heavy books out and store the flower press idea for a christmas present
thanks MrsL

Oh Mar so annoying, I'm really sorryWe were all set to move to isle of lewis last year but it fell through at the last minute. I hear they're having a lovely summer up there this year and out of the jet stream. So frustrating
