Best way to fly to Japan?

Hi all, I've booked a 2 week tour around Japan starting September 16th and ending September 29th...after I'm flying to the Philippines for a week (29th September to 6th Oct) and then I'll need to leave and get back to the UK on 7th October.

I've been looking at flights in the past few weeks (Skyscanner seems to be one of the best places) but the prices seem to vary a lot. Recently they've been increasing more and more... is this normal for flights to get more expensive the closer you are to the the date? I thought some things get cheaper the later you leave them?

The best I've found so far is:

LON - Narita 437 GBP
Narita - Manila 150 GBP
Manila - LON 590 GBP

This is really just too much money.. Is there a better play to fly to or via before going to any of my destinations? I'm not a seasoned traveller so any advice would be much appreciated. I've tried looking at multi-stop sites but they either require more than 3 locations or just aren't actually cheaper...

Thanks for anyone's time.

Jon

    Jonjuk -

Yes, it is normal that flights get much more expensive the closer you get to departure.

I've seen recent posts about cheap travel to Japan going via European hubs by budget airlines - Madrid came out cheap if I remember correctly.

One alternative would be to buy a return ticket to Tokyo (fly direct to Haneda with BA for around £650) and a return ticket between Tokyo - Manila (£273 Jetstar) - works out about £250 cheaper than you have so far, just bear in mind that you'll have a very long travel time doing it this way (4hrs back to Tokyo plus stopover time).

Do any regional airports fly to manila?

It was my thread here. £300 all in was possible.

Unfortunately the price has more than doubled now.

Talk to a travel agent (Trailfinders would be a good place to start) and ask about open-jaw tickets (UK to Tokyo, Philippines to UK). As mentioned above, airlines such as Jetstar would get you between your destinations for a reasonable one-way fare.

TakeThis...you say it's almost doubled since your post (which I saw and almost cried at!) Do you mean it's still possible to book at around£600?
