Mosquito bands - rip off or useful?

I ditched the boxes as I bought them in HK but they had a picture of a huge evil mozzie on it. The sachets inside say 3M though and have 2 patches in each silver sachet with a pic of a mozzie.

I bought them in Watsons which I know exists in Thailand. They also have their own brand but 4 patches per sachet.
