Would I need a TV license?

Its an interesting hypothetical though. Has anyone ever been done for it. You could delay the broadcast for xx minutes or seconds, but when does live stop being live.
If I watched the tour de france on eurosport servers, that would be live, if I watched it on sport on demand, thats a further minutes delay, but is it live?BEWARE OF AUTO-RENEWAL0 -
CBS isnt a UK broadcast channel though? Just because they put it on freesat that means you have to pay to watch on a computer?valid TV Licence if you watch
That'd include no tv but having a video recorder.0 -

no you are wrong, you have have a hundred thousand TVs in a house with no TV license, you can even use them all for a PS3 or as PC monitor, you only break the law if you watch TV as it is being broadcast, not just for owning the TV equipment (or owning a VCR/DVD recorder)0 -

no you have to wait until the program has finished, therefore you cannot just have it on delay (as there would be some form of caching from the live broadcast), also to your CBS (and eurosport) example because that is another countries broadcast and you do not have a right to view it in this country then you are probably breaking some sort of copyright laws, like if you go to the CBS website and it says it's not available in your country, well the same is true with the actual live channels you are supposed to be in the US to view them.0 -
So when does it stop being technical. When it is uploaded to a different platform, say rapidshare, and streamed from there.
It doesn't, they even changed the law when Sky came about so you need a TV Licence to receive feeds from Space (satellites)
The leftists wont let you watch anything unless you've helped subsidise their propaganda machine first0 -
To be clear: you can watch a live broadcast stream (without a licence) as long as it is not being broadcast at the same time to the public in the UK via cable/satellite/terrestrial.
I'm not familiar with CBS, but if it is broadcast via UK satellite then you need a licence to stream it, even if that stream originates overseas.
Obviously, if the stream is not a broadcast stream in the first place, then it's not licenceable, anyway.
All of this is very messy, and can only become more so, I would have thought.0 -

So basically you are saying you can watch TF1 or France 2 live streams, as well as any US live sports streams as long as the US or French channels don't broadcast in the UK.
You couldn't watch Fox News live stream as that is being broadcast in the UK via sky.
You could watch an American Football stream from Fox even though the same game is shown on SKY who are rebroadcasting the Fox stream.BEWARE OF AUTO-RENEWAL0 -
Yes, it really is that stupid, and yes it is ridiculous.
They will be taxing my thoughts next: 'you can't imagine a Television show without a licence! We can find you with our magic vans you know!'Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

It does make you wonder if the fabled detection device is actually a limp copy of the Radio Times. You could watch an American Football stream from Fox even though the same game is shown on SKY who are rebroadcasting the Fox stream.
If the content were 100% identical then it becomes something of a grey area. I'll post the legal definition from the legislation when I get a minute.
Either way, "TVL" have no rights to enter your home (short of a rare as hen's teeth search warrant) or inspect your computer (short of a separate court order).0 -

I like college football! Usually shown on ESPN in the UK though, streamed through varous alternatives stateside.
I had a major falling out with TVL when we had a tv licence in my partners name, I bought a TV licence in my name, and the ***** wouldn't leave us alone.
Only tv guy to come to the door (in 9 years of being without one) was told I didn't need a tv licence and the door was slammed in his face.
I have absolutely no time for them.BEWARE OF AUTO-RENEWAL0
