3 existing customers and tethering

Hi
Just wanted to warn people that are existing customers of 3 that are considering upgrading their contracts.
I have been with 3 for 4 years, I have always had a really good contract and it could not be bettered by the other mobile phone service providers.
I was on the Texter 500 that gave me 500 mins talk time, 500 texts, 1GB data allowance and 2000 3-3 mins. For £20.00 I had an HTC android phone that did what I needed it to until recently when the onboard memory became full, so I decided to upgrade. I rang and was persuaded to go on the Ultimate Internet 500. The sales person told me everything that was included but omitted to tell me what I would lose.
I received the phone a couple of days later but as yet I have not received a contract outlining the terms and conditions. Had I had the chance to peruse the contract prior to receiving the phone and identified that tethering would not have been possible the phone would have been returned unused and I would have cancelled the contract. Cynically, I believe this is the reason for sending the contract out after the phone, to prevent customers from exercising their statutory rights thus ensuring existing customers are transferred onto more expensive contracts.
I have been forced onto the One plan that is costing me an additional £8.52 per month for something I had included in my last, much cheaper contract. I am mad because I feel I have been ripped off and I suspect underhand tactics have been employed.
So if you tether and you are upgrading a three contract then you will need to go with the one plan or be stiffed. I would recommend you go on the website before you ring to find out what they are offering new customers.

You can't expect them to tell you what you're going lose, they'd never make a sale and never get any commission. Did you specifically ask them if it would include tethering?cantgoonhols wrote: »The sales person told me everything that was included but omitted to tell me what I would lose.
That's standard procedure for me when I'm looking to upgrade, I expect them to be economical with the truth for the reasons above. So if you tether and you are upgrading a three contract then you will need to go with the one plan or be stiffed. They should have offered you the 'Add Tethering' add on for £5 per month - 1GB allowance for tethering

Would have saved you over £3 quid per month.
Maybe worth enquiring about......0 -
I also am tied to the one plan with 3 , I am wondering if it is possible to leave this contract as in the last 3 months I have had no network coverage at my home address 3 times once for a week for which they credited my account with 5 pounds ,I have just been told I will now have no network coverage for up to 25 days but they will give me a credit of 19 pounds does this not break the contract ?0

No it doesn't break the contract, the fact they've warned you in advance means it was planned maintenance which has to be done. Not ideal, but at least they are going to give you some money for the inconvenience.0

Bully for you Buscape, I just wanted to warn other people so they would know when they upgrade that tethering, a once free service isn't any more.0

I'm sure people will appreciate the warning, my point is that networks change their contracts and remove services all the time and won't tell you this when you're upgrading (for obvious reasons) which means you have to go a bit further to make sure you're getting what you want.0

Always read the small print.....0

Vincewurt, I haven't had the contract yet!0

You don't get one. Their T&C's are standard and available to read on the website. They are under no obligation to provide it. Further, it has nothing to do with 'contracts' but the T&C's which can change when they want them to - you are really complaining about a Tariff issue, and this can also change, whether your contract terms do or do not - they are not dependent.0
