We didn't say anything just picked the flowers up out of the buckets and then mentioned weddings once we had paid ;)

I've never tried arranging silk flowers but if you want a simple handtie effect should be quite easy to do yourself. I just hold them in my hand a poke the stems in the right place then cut them all off level at the bottom.

Try somewhere like dunelm unless there is a flower warehouse near you. I've seen so much difference in quality of silk flowers I wouldn't want to order any without seeing them first.

    Hey all,

I'm planning on doing my own wedding flowers too and found this site https://www.diy-flowers.co.uk They do Wedding in a Box flowers including ribbon, corsage pins and tape too. Also, the flowers are conditioned before they arrive which means you don't have to strip all the lower leaves and bathe them etc. There's a free DIY guide on how to make bouquets etc. I think I'm gonna go with the cheapest package: Ivory Roses, Peruvian Lilies and Chrysanthemums for £250. Better then paying the £1500 I was quoted!
  • £250 is their minimum order, which is fine if you're having a lot. The the moment I am planning on only a bouquet for me, posies for two bridesmaids, buttonholes for about 6 people and single flowers in beer bottles (x3 per table).

I'm really struggling to know where to buy flowers from. New Covent Garden seems a bit intimidating...

My local market has a couple of flower stalls which will order flowers in for you. If you get up early though you will get a far greater choice and possibly a better price at Covent Garden.

    Hey lou,

I found when I went to the florist my budget of £400 would only stretch to buttonholes and bouquets too, but this way I've got plenty flowers for centerpieces and the church too. I'm gonna get a couple of the pew ends.

    Good Luck.

P.S. minimum order is £230 now and I just got a £20 discount voucher for submitting my email.

I am using these guys who supply wholesale for weddings and so far have been incredibly helpful via phone and email

All my flowers are coming to £100 and that is for 30 freesia in beer bottles for tables, 20 black baccarra roses, 10 medium calla lily, 10 large calla lilly then £15 odd VAT and £15 delivery.

works out at about £1 per stem! Bargain since I have chosen the more expensive flowers.

I mocked up a bouquet at the weekend and it looked okay so I am hoping it will be fine on the day!
  • I'm thinking I might give up and go to a florist. I don't want stress on the morning of the wedding...
  • I'm hoping to do my flowers for August. I have scoured the internet to see videos and it looks so easy!!! famous last words. But I've read today that everything can be done the day before, and even the bride's bouquet can be left in water and then just dried and wrapped an hour before needed. Think a hand-tied posy will be the easiest with just pink roses and white freisias with bit of eucalyptus. I've also bought some strands of pearl beads to put in with it. I was quoted £100 for that so feel sure I can do something I'm content with. I think the most time consuming part will be 9 buttonholes ! For table centres, I have seen a pot of ivy in Ikea which is trained round a frame. Thought I could put a bit of oasis in the middle and a few flowers in the middle to pretty it up.

It depends how complicated you want to make them but if its just some green stuff (not very technical about flowers) and a rose then it should only take a few minutes.

You might want to buy some florist tape as thats the easiest way to hold it together.

Hi, I'm making my flowers on thursday next week!!!! Just ordered some rather gorgeous roses from M&S for buttonholes (found great video how-to's on youtube) and I'm seeing a woman from the Womens Institute tomorrow about her supplying sweetpeas from her garden for the bridesmaids.

I talked to my local florist and she sold me some thin wire, florist's tape, and bear grass at a bargain price of £1 lol.

I did get a quote from another florist for £95 for 6 buttonholes, my flowers and 3 bridesmaids. by doing this myself I'm spending £60 and will have enough left over for the tables too :)
