Creation Finance - Beware!

Ask yourself - why do you think a company would offer you a loan without you asking for one?
  • I bought a sofa from walmsleys on credit for 699. I paid £200 cash up front and had credit for £499 from a company called creation finance who are also known as open and direct services??
I was young and stupid and didn't really look into the APR. The credit aggreement was done over the phone in store and was accepted. The woman in the shop gave me some paperwork which unfortunately i cannot find. but my agreement was for 24months @ 26.00 a month from 09/12/2006 WITH ONE YEAR INTEREST FREE. I did not pay the £499 balance back in the interest free year so was aware that i would end up paying back more money. after the interest free year was nearly up i recieved a letter from creation stating that my balance was for 500.00 and it said when my first payment would start. However it did not say how much each monthly payment was or what the APR was. They took 26.00 a month so i just assumed that after the 2 yrs it would stop. But it didn't they carried on taking my payments until i cancelled it myself. I have wrote numerous letters to this company to ask for a copy of my signed aggreement and never had a reply. however recently i checked my credit report from experian and it states on my account that i still owe creation (open and direct) £263 and i have one missing payment which is definately not true.
They have never sent me a letter stating that i owe money and they have not sent me any confirmation of my agreement which i have asked for on numerous occasions.
MY CREDIT IS NOW SUFFERING BECAUSE THEY SAY I HAVE A DEFAULT ON MY ACCOUNT WHEN ITS ALL LIES.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN SOLVE THIS?

I couldn't agree with Kathyleeds more - DON'T, under ANY circumstances use Creation Consumer Finance Ltd for ANY purchases. My late Father did. He died in April and I contacted them, sent the death cert etc, and explained my brother would be in touch with them about arranging to set up payments with them to continue paying the rest of the HP payments. All was fine with that, they SAID. However, they keep sending me letters asking for the full amount, wont deal with my brother on the phone and when I tried to ring today their VERY unhelpful and rude member of staff Connor Keelan refused to discuss the matter with me, but said he would only speak to the account holder. When I reminded him that was my Father who is now dead, he said he knew that!!! This really really upset me as my Father only passed away recently and I am still grieving. I told this moron that they had to speak to me, as agreed at the beginning, in order to get the debt paid off or they wouldn;t be able to get any money. He refused to discuss it with me at all. I then insisted he put me on to a manager, which he again refused. I demanded this time and again and he said he would terminate the call....and did!
This is all very fishy. Something tells me that they actually WANT matters to go to legal action because they obviously make more money out of steering matters down that path.
I now have to hire a solicitor to sort these horrible brick walling *******'* out! And all because we are TRYING to get my late Dads debt paid!!! I just don't need this added upset and stress and if I had a way of sueing them, and particularly nasty Mr Keelan, for the distress and extra difficulty caused, I would. PLEASE don't use them, and if you take on any finance please, for your sake and your loved ones sakes, find out who it is with first, avoid these cowboy rogues AND take out PPI on the loan, whoever it is with.

  • P.S: My further advice to anyone already stuck in problems with Brick-Wallers Creation Consumer Finance Ltd is to deal with the problems by mail or email ONLY, not on the 'phone. Keep ALL letters to and from you, especially letters of offers being made by you and offers of assistance to help sort the debt out. If they turn it down or ignore it, chances are their case won't hold any water legally, should they take it further.

  • I have recently received a demand for a store card from Mackenzie Hall Ltd. I have never had a store card in my life and when I called the number on the letter they stated all they could tell me was that it was a store card demand from Creation Finance for £118.96 and that I must prove it is not my debt... I am trying to get this resolved, any help?

This is incorrect. The finance company/DCA HAS to prove you owe the debt not the other way round.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Have GE finance been sold off to this Creation Finance?

GE Finance used to be based near Leeds (at least the UK bit). They also owned the LG consumer electronics brand at the time, which means I've never boght any of their stuff ever again.
    LG meaning Lifes good?

If so this is a sound east Asian brand who's original name is Lucky Goldstar, the name didn't appeal to Europeans, Unless you mean a different company :)

I'm sorry your father has passed away and the problems you are facing.

The only credit rating they can actually ruin with a default if your fathers, which he doesn't need. SO deal with your grieving and let them scream. I would recommend you talk to national debt line for their advice on this matter as they can deal with it for you.

Most DCA are a bunch of hard headed idiots, there but for the grace of god go I. We recently had the pleasure of someone we know who used to be horrible on the phone to clients when working ofr a DCA having to try and deal with them hinself with his own debts. Maybe he sould have been a bit nicer.

Anyway, you say it's a HP loan, can the item not be handed back?

Just a thought but sometimes a phone call and a letter from a solicitor can get these monkeys off your back.

Thanks so much for your response and for your condolences, I really appreciate both.
No the item cant just be handed back as if it is they still want the money owed too! And anyway its for a TV that my brother is still using (he lived with our Father) and he IS willing to pay whats owed on it but they just wont speak to him about it. Insisted they can only speak to me as is me dealing with the business but they now closed ranks on me too!
I am trying to avoid bailiffs turning up at the house or worse, court action letters!
Yes, I had already decided to see my solicitor tomorrow about this, was just hoping not to have to have even more costs to fork out.
I could have written to them myself but figured I'd get nowhere with them having the general attitude they seem to have with so many people, so decided a solicitor is best to deal with it.

Thanks again. If all these posts stop just one person using these uncaring unhelpful sharks or helps someone else solve their problem with them, it'll be good.

  • Hi

I wondering how you were getting on with this and if you managed to make any headway with the DCA?

    Any update? :)

I guess i have to save more for my 50" tv and stand......
