Buy It Now Buyer now wants to retract from Purchase

Hi
I hope that someone can help me with this, as I don't know what to do.
I had a DVD for sale on Ebay as a Buy It Now. Someone purchased it on the 25th of June. Yesterday (9 days later), they have emailed me, asking me if they can retract the bid, as someone else has purchased the DVD for them.
I feel a bit aggrieved, as in the meantime, I could have perhaps had another buyer for the DVD. It has been a long period of time since purchasing the DVD and contacting me about it.
However, I know that these things happen, so does anybody know how I go about this. I don't wish to incur any costs from ebay, if it looks as though I have sold the DVD and then have to re-list it.
Many thanks !

you'll have to do a neutral and ask the buyer to accept it, get your fees back and relisthelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Send them a request to cancel the transaction. They should accept it and you will get FVF back (or they will ignore it and after 8 days you can close it and you will get them back).
You can do this off the sale or go into the Resolution Centre and select you want to cancel a transaction under the "I sold an item" option0 -
Many thanks for both your replies! It is appreciated.
Can I ask a couple more questions in response to your answers? I don't think that I can leave neutral feedback, can I, to a buyer or am I missing something? (Probably):)
Also, I'm afraid that I don't know what a FVF is. Perhaps you could enlighten me?
Many thanks!!0 -
You can only leave a Positive but if you are cancelling the transaction, not a lot you can say really.
FVF - Final Value Fee's - The % you give to eBay when your item sells.0 -
FVF - final value fee. This is the ebay fee for using their service.
You have 2 choices, either ask the buyer to agree to a mutual cancellation and you will get a refund of your ebay fees, the downside is that the buyer can still leave feedback.
Or you can do an unpaid item dispute and once you have closed it the buyer cannot leave feedback. Again there is a downside as this takes 4 days and your buyer could pay in the meantime.
Its your choice really.
Your correct, you cannot leave neutral or negative for a buyer. A seller can only leave positive feeddback, so might be best not to leave any. Don't leave a positive with a negative comment or you could face ebay sanctions.

Thank you both so much! It's difficult to know how these things work sometimes, especially as you don't always know the results after you have chosen a certain path.
I am still unclear as which to choose and I appreciate you letting me know the consequences of my choices CouponWoman. I really don't want to receive negative feedback (I guess no one does). So I am thinking of not doing the mutual cancellation. However, I do feel sorry for the buyer and it seems a bit mean opening up an unpaid dispute against them. Decisions, decisions......
As it has been nearly 2 weeks now since they purchased the DVD, do you know how long I have before I open a dispute? Is there a time frame?
Interestingly enough, I have 4 different buyers, who haven't paid on buy it now. Maybe it is bad luck but I think that next time I list anything, I am going to tick the box "immediate payment required".
Many thanks!0 -
I would say the buyer is highly unlikely to leave you a negative. Infact, I would say they will either leave nothing or a positive as you are being helpful.(from personal experience)
You can open a not paid dispute after 4 days of the sale and then the buyer has another 4 days to pay before you can close it. 9 days is long time for them to come to you and ask for a cancellation but I would just to the mutual offer and move on.0 -
Thank you so much sgh1976 for making this decision easier for me! I will go ahead with the cancellation request and will keep my fingers crossed that they don't leave me negative feedback.
However, you have made me think about one of the other 4 non-payers. They too purchased their DVD 9 days ago and I still haven't heard anything from them. Perhaps, I should email them? I don't want to be pushy but 9 days is a long time, isn't it? Or am I being too impatient?0 -
I agree - a buyer treated with respect, even through gritted teeth, will treat you with respect.
You can always relist. Personally I'm finding it rather slow at the moment, so I suspect you haven't missed out as much as you think you have.
You can also ask them to cancel the transaction from their side now - tell them to go to My eBay, go to the relevant item, go to the drop down menu on the right-hand-side of the screen. Go to 'Resolve a Problem', and there will be an option saying something like 'I want to cancel a transaction'. I've never gone beyond this screen, but I believe it sends you a request to which you agree.
This cuts out the will-they-won't-they acceptance dance that is sometimes quite frustrating. I do think eBay should make this much more prominent as it would help enormously with this sort of issue.
Good luck

On the 4 that haven't paid. Just open up the disputes now. On your sales page you can do this from the dropdown menu next to the sale details. Select that the buyer hasn't paid and then if they haven't paid in 4 days time, you can close the transaction, they will get a strike, you will get your FVF back and they can't leave feedback (if they leave feedback in the meantime and don't pay this will automatically be deleted when the cases are closed)0
