combining hand luggage weight?

Hi, I am soon flying with Thomson with my wife and son, we get 20kg each on baggage so I understand 2 main cases can hold up to 60kg between them.
But on cabin hand luggage we get 5kg per person, can this also be combined into 15kg between 2 small bags or is it 5kg per small bag each?

Thomson's standard baggage allowance is 15kgs per person unless you have upgraded.
Baggage allowances can be pooled across a party, but no baggage may exceed 23kg.
I don't know if hand baggage can be pooled.0 -
I don't think they usually weigh hand luggage but there's the size restrictions. I recently flew BMI baby and we got 10kg each, though Thomas cook told me 5, so do check airline website; 5 seems very little. Having said that I have flown on smallish planes and even though my bag was within size limits they still took it off me at the steps and put on hold, giving it back to me at steps when we got off0

OP
there seems to be a few inconsistencies in your post compared to the Thomson website (below).Standard luggage allowance
Each customer is entitled to a check-in allowance of up to 15kg baggage and a maximum 5kg for hand baggage (max. dimensions: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm).
Adding Extra Baggage: Up to 10kg extra hold baggage allowance can be purchased for an extra charge during the holiday booking process. You can also add extra baggage before you travel by visiting our Flight Extras website.
No single item of baggage may exceed 23kg. Customers who have pre-paid for an additional check-in allowance which places them over the 23kg limit must check in an additional bag.
Baggage allowances can be pooled across a party, but no baggage may exceed 23kg.
Have you paid for extra hold allowance to take you all up to 20kg?
As luci says, each case can't exceed 23kgs so you can't have 2 @ 30kg.
At best, you're looking at 2 @ 23kg and 1 @ 14kg.
'Heavy' luggage sometimes has to be taken to a different place after check-in to hand it in.
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you can pool hand luggage.
I suggest you contact Thomson to check what you can do.0 -
Thomsons weighed our hand luggage a couple of weeks ago, it was over but they let it go.
You can't pool it to the best of my knowledge but try it all the same and have a good carrier bag handy in case they insist on it being separate bags, then just put it back in the 2 bags after check in0 -
we had 20kg allowance with thomson,as we were travelling with a baby we upgraded extra 5 kg hoping to add to babys free 10kg but this wasnt allowed.
the extra 5 kg could only be added to the adults luggage allowance and it was stressed if we put the upgraded 5kg in the babys luggage we would be charged excess!
travel agent told me hand luggage/hold luggage can be pooled.0 -
Hand luggage can't be pooled with Thomsons and Thomas Cook each person is supposed to have their own bag, they say at check in desk its incase it falls out of the overhead locker and hits someone, but i don't know how that one works when ryanair etc have 10kgs of hand luggage. You can pool your hold luggage but Thomsons rules are 23kg maximum per case. The last few flights i've been on they have been pretty strict in weighing the hand luggage.0

we went on a thomson holiday march this year.to clubhotel paraiso.
20 kg luggage allowance. upgraded extra 5 kg, i knew the limit for hold luggage is 23kg.
travel agent phoned airline to check if it was possible for us to use the extra 5 kg with the babys free luggage allowance. told a definite no.
we were told we could use the upgraded 5 kg to add to cabin baggage.as long as the combined weight did not exceed our allowance.
thomson travel agent told me even without upgraded luggage allowance it is possible to use less hold weight baggage and more cabin baggage and vice versa0 -

I'm really surprised at that!
So why don't they say " your total baggage allowance is (say) 20 kilos which you can use as you wish between hold and cabin"?
I know that it would be impossible to do (imagine somebody trying to put a 20kg suitcase into the overhead locker) but you know what I mean.
I'm not disputing that that's what you were told but it does go against what the Thomson website say:Each customer is entitled to a check-in allowance of up to 15kg baggage and a maximum 5kg for hand baggage (max. dimensions: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm).0 -
i dont know that you can put 20kg in the cabin but as said there are max dimensions for hand baggage, having said that the backpack we use for hand luggage is slightly larger and have never had a problem but doubt we usually go over 5 kg.
we fly at least twice a year with thomson /first choice and i never knew till march this year that the cabin/hold luggage can be mixed.0 -
Just packing, and have weighed all of the 5 suitcases and just popped on to see if it mattered that one was 12 and one was 17, as been faffing about moving sandles for the last hour. Have got all just under 15kg but relieved can be weighed together, as still have toothbrushes to shove in!
We have all got our own hand luggage, with all sorts of random items inside. Thank goodness don't have to do this on the way home, as all the suncream, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc etc is gone. Just a few bottles to bring back!
Thanks everyone, as knew someone would have asked the question and that there would be helpful replies. xMorgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!
