You said you bought at 1.20.
TCPG would have got you 1.227 or thereabouts.
You said CC purchases came in at 1.204 to 1.215. (Of course if these were cash withdrawals, the exchange rate will be a lot less when you take into account ATM fees and interest)
TCPG would have got you 1.227 or thereabouts.
You just get a better rate with the Globe card than you do with your current methods.
You lost 13.50 euros on the cash. The CC depends on whether it was 1500 euros of purchases only. If purchases 25.75 euros. If some cash withdrawals, then the saving potentially much more.
So around 39 euros according to your figures.
The EUR 1500 was all purchases, so around £32 potential saving then. Not enough to tempt me to venture into the unknown I'm afraid but thanks for the advice0 -
Who mentioned using Eurocards? No one but you.
F_Bear mentioned euro cards in post #1id be happy to get one in either euros or sterling as my budgeting is better than my planning :AThere is no way that the Fairfx Anywhere ever costs less than the Cash Passport Globe card when making an ATM withdrawal.
Withdrawing the equivalent of £200 abroad with FairFx Anywhere will cost you £204.30. £300; £305.70.
With the Cash Passport Globe; £202.98 & £304.47 respectively.
Using your Euro card, the differences would be even more pronounced.
I never tried to compare the Fairfx Anywhere I just gave the OP some information to compare the anywhere card with the euro cards (he expressed an interest in either a euro or sterling card in his original post). Sorry my Fairfx (and Caxton) are both eurocards I mistakenly compared it with the Travelex euro passport card. Todays exchange rate Fairfx 1.219 Travelex 1.210.
Even so assuming that the Travelex Global gives the Mastercard exchange rate, for £1000 load... the Travelex global is only better by €9-€10 over the Fairfx euro for POS... hardly a fortune or even deal breaker.Perhaps you can point us towards a document confirming your fantasy about a Dormancy charge.
Again as above I was mistakenly comparing eurocards as in Travelex terms and conditions here.0 -

You post is again entirely misleading...
If you know we are referring to the Cash Passport Globe, why are you still referring to the Travelex Euro card rate?
Secondly, why are you quoting figures for POS only for a £1000 load. Are you suggesting that someone will only use the card for POS transactions??
You know that in reality, ATM withdrawals will take place and therefore the differences will be larger than the 9 or 10 euros that you suggest.
Add to that that going via TopCashback will net you another £5 back with the Globe card.
So confirm that there is no Dormancy fee with the Globe card instead of just posting an irrelevant foreign currency card PDF.
This is a money saving website, so to choose the more expensive option for no reason whatsoever, makes no sense.0 -

Do you actually read the replies? If you read again I conceded twice that I was mistaken in comparing Travelex Passport Currency Card with the Travelex Passport Globe Card.
I wasn't trying to mislead just illustrating how I made the mistake.
To be honest I was completely unaware of the Globe card and thankyou for pointing it out.0 -
I knew that you wouldn't listen.
You chose a card that charges 2.5% over one that charges 1.49% because you can top it up via text?
I honestly don't know why we bother....
putting aside the apparnant 'trolling' between members, where is the 2.5% charged? when i load it up?
i also chose the caxton card as the atm withdraws are free.
i'll prob load the card up with £1200 in total over the 11 days. say 3 £400 loads. so price of 3 texts, and maybe a txt at the end of every 2 days to find the balance. (the other cards u needed the internet to check).
i'll prob take £200 out every other day from a atm and pay for all the meals on it.
am i still going to be worse off tha the 1.49% card you sponser?!
cheers0 -

There is no 'trolling' here, don't be obtuse.
People discuss what they know and perhaps learn something new.
You were told which was the best, but you ignored the advice and went your own way. That's fine, but to ask whether using card that charges 2.5% will leave you worse off than a card that charges 1.49% is just incredible.
That like asking if something costing £2.50 costs more than something costing £1.49.
Perhaps you are the Troll.
The Caxton card and the SMS system obviously suits you, so stick with it.
But the best value for money and the quickest to obtain was the one that I mentioned.0 -
I think the moral of the story is don't use Travel cards at all unless you really need to!
Apply for a current account with N&P or Metrobank and leave the cards dormant in a drawer somewhere ready for your next trip abroad (with N&P, set up standing orders to fulfil the minimum account requirements) - then no more faffing around with comparing rates, analysing ATM withdrawal costs etc. etc.
Or just do the same with a Clarity, Post Office, Nationwide Select or Aqua credit card if you are able to.0
