My council tax bill is £1728 that hurts!!!! I guess that's what you get for living close to London in the best part of a crappy town, I mean to look at it you would think I could buy the bloody town for £1700. Our house is band E

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ours have gone from £85 to £89 per month for a Band A property, wont be to impressed if they do that rebanding thay are on about as this house has been done up quite nicely and extended. Might go live in a wigwam to avoid the council tax.

Hi, Thanks to whoever started this thread. I think this tax is unfair and is not based on your ability to pay. I think also that the tax in Scotland is greater than England and always the excuse up here is that we include water in with our council tax.
Out of interest though I live in an old 2 bedroom apartment and it is classed band C . The council tax for 2007/2008 is £1000.89
    water £ 152.64
    sewerage £ 172.56
So all in the tax for 2007/2008 is £1326.09 which I think is daylight robbery as I don't have any choice but to pay, okay we do have to pay for local services but maybe if some of the councillors expenses were reduced there would be a big saving. I have also seen on this forum how water meters are not that expensive compared to what we are being charged up here. It would be interesting though to hear others views on this . cheers shrewdal

    Ours went up from £119 a month to £125 (band D) - 5% increase.
  • We've just moved into a new place in Bristol so have jsut had our first council tax bill - seems it's been increased by 4.9% from last year. We're Band D.

BUT, i checked out the correct banding thing and I think we should be a band C so I've challenged it and am just waiting for a response. Fingers crossed! :D

Crumbs some of these increases are steep!

Ours only increased by 1.95%. Compared to others I should be thankful!

Now paying £732.00 CT, £114.48 water charge and £129.42 sewerage. Total = £975.90 (still too blooming much)

How do these bands work? I always thought it was house value, but I know for a fact that a band F in Westminster pays less than me (band B in Bristol)
Every local authority sets different levels of council tax! In London, Westminster is renowned for being low (shame nobody can actually afford to live there! :D) and Wandsworth is also very low.

My current rate (in London Borough of Southwark) is £881.02 for my Band B flat, but I'm on single person's discount so I pay £660.76. No word so far on next year's rates... haven't yet received a letter and it's not on the council website yet either...
