DVD writer drivers?

My PC, running XP, won't let me upgrade to SP3, and without being able to do that I can't update drivers for my DVD writer drive.
I'm trying to use hubby's machine which itself generally runs better, and is already on SP3. But it has a out of date DVD RW drive, Ricoh DVD +RW MP5125A. I can't seem to get any DVDs to be recognised so would like to update drivers but am struggling to find a free download site, and loathe to splash out when I don't know what I might get and if it'll work. I can find plenty of free scan sites but then the download costs
Does anyoe know of any safe free sites to actually download drivers?

Are the drivers actually missing in device manager?

    Has it ever worked?

    itunes ever been installed

What type of dvd's are you trying to use, in which program? Are you trying to play dvd's or write them?

Don't understand the relevance of sp3, why you cant install it, and involving 2 machines in the post - what are you trying to achieve on which machine?

download bittorent and install it, then go to pirate bay you may have to google piratebay reroute to find the site as its been blocked recentlly or ideally join demonid instead if user registrations are open,

anyways whilst on pirate bay type in 'drivers cd' you will find umpteen sayin 100,000 drivers 50,000 drivers etc etc, ideally search for the km drivers pack which is one of the best ones, and download oh and purely from a protective viewpoint i would download peerblock aswell and have it running, dont be tempted to download movies software or games for free as peeps will give you a row, there liable to let you off with downloadin driver cds

    ;)

The PC is a Medion, model AWRDACPI (taken that from the System Information)
I've no idea about Firmware - how do I find that out?

start control panel find system go to device manager find your device itll no doubt have an exclamation mark beside it, click on it look for driver update stuff like that now i forget exactly but that should pretty much do it also try uninstalling your driver from device manager restart your system and see if it reinstalls it properly upon a system RESET

Firmware for the Ricoh is here, but do you know how to install it?

Do you have the Drivers and Applications CD that came with the Medion PC?

    Again...nothing to do with Drivers....

Not your fault, but over complicated posts about torrents and Driver CDs are overkill.
