Are you a food hoarder?

In the sense that if you get a good deal on some non-perishable food you like to keep it just incase there are no good deals on the food in the future?
I am and my OH drives me mad when I get a good deal (3 for £1 mini eggs/5 for £1 crunchies for example) and he eats them all within a week!
He doesn't understand that once it's gone it's gone and I'm unlikely to get the same deals for a long while. Thus no crunchies/mini eggs etc for a while.
I try hiding them to make them last longer but he knows where all the hiding places are
I like to ration, he thinks I'm crazy. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Surely all food is perishable?0

Personally I have more success hoarding tins of tomatoes than sweets........
Don't normally have to ration them either!0 -
Honey isn't

But yeah, I totally do this... my OH will eat things right away, and I make even a box of chocolate last for weeks and weeks because I so rarely get them!
This easter we got an easter egg each from his mum, and while his was gone in a day, mine lasted a week and he was jealous the whole time I sat there enjoying bits of it each day :rotfl:0 -
We have the same problem with cheese. OH only likes a certain brand of cheese which is regularly on offer. So I don't want to buy it at full price if I can help it.
Unfortunately OH doesn't understand that just because we have 5 packs of cheese in the fridge it does not mean he should eat 5 packs of cheese within a week!0 -

OOh you just reminded me.....there's an easter egg in the cupboard. I put it there to hide it from the kids and it has stayed there. Happy days

I do stock up on some food when it's on offer (tins of tomatoes etc). I don't stock up on treat-type foods though. I think if you have a multi-pack of crisps it's too easy to find yourself eating a bag a day rather than a just having one now and again.0

Always buy extra when its cheap although wife got annoyed a couple of weeks ago when Sainsburys were doing a coco shreddies promotion and I ordered 75 packs to qualify for a £15 off £75 spend.
Delivery bloke was very happy as he says cereal boxes and toilet paper are his fave things to deliver as they are bulky but very light.0 -
My husband is too lazy to 'hunt' for food in the house, so I just stick it on a shelf in the attached garage, which is much too far away for him to go to.

Yes, to a small extent. I am just coming to an end with Walls sausages, at one stage had quite a few packets in the freezer when the offer was on.
Washing gel is another. We bought quite a lot when it was on offer. It would never do to run out here. I wash every day.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I buy when things are on offer. For treat items, I keep them hidden from the kids and only get a few out at a time (enough for one each). A box on top of the wardrobe is a good place to hide stuff, especially if you put something boring like pillow cases on top of the treats
