I feel sorry for those kids and parents as well, but its a valuable life lesson to learn. Some people have more money than others, harsh but very true.

My parents didn't have a lot of money when I was growing up (I was the eldest of 3 girls).
Of my 2 best friends - one's parents were both teachers and the other was an only child and also had a Grandad living with them who spoiled her.

I learned a valuable life lesson that some people have more money than others too but my nose wasn't rubbed in it by my friends' parents spending a fortune on dressese, shoes and temporary beauty aids like spray tans and false nails.

Just to add, my Daughter is going with pink hair beehive and a skull necklace. She's alittle alternative, She isn't going to look "sexy" or try and ape TOWIE, she just wants to look nice!

I like the sound of that, Notakid!! What's her dress like?

    Jx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

A college close to where I work had theirs on Friday - you could hardly move on the road for luxury hire-cars and pink stretch-limos ferrying sl*ppers to the party.

Wow! I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark that you wasn't exactly Miss Popular at school...

I don't exactly remember being a slapper just because I had a limo for mine... I didn't realise there was a direct correlation between car hire and s*xual promiscuity ???

    And this is her necklace.

She has also got a sequinned shrug to cover her arms! As I'm a fuddy duddy! :D
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!

Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

I'm one of five children so we didn't have much money either. There weren't proms back in my day, but I do remember lots of kids having the latest trainers and getting to go on the school trips that we couldn't afford. A few kids would make nasty comments about my 'no brand' trainers, but the majority didn't even notice. I don't think the majority of kids going to proms will rub the less fortunate kids noses in. It seems in this day though everybody expects to have the same as everybody else and that isn't very realistic.

That's exactly what I was thinking! A horrible way to describe 15/16 year old girls.

I work in a secondary school and we've just had our prom, by all accounts it was a fab evening, the kids were well behaved and a credit to the school. So what if they like to dress up in fancy dresses and get their nails done. What harm are they doing!

I have no problem with that.

My daughter looked absolutely beautiful, in a stunning full length gown, but age appropriate. It is the competitiveness that I object to. Look at me, look how much my dress cost, my dress is better than yours.

I will never understand why some people want their daughters to look and act like grown women at the age of 15.

Not a lesson that's appropriate for school life though.

I think there is only a few that do to be fair.

Most of the young girls look like bridemaids. They are still young and innocent enough to want that look!:p
