Real life MMD: She dumped my son - should I make her pay for the holiday

Legally speaking, it depends what, if anything the agreement between you was. Presumably there was no written agreement? It would not be a contract because there was no exchange - she was giving you nothing in return (other than continuing to go out with your son).
So it would appear to be a gift. A gift that you have purchased but not yet given to her. So she has no obligation to you.
It would seem to be a gift that no-one now wants. But you still "own" it so you can retain the "gift" to do with as you please. Sell it, give it to someone else, try to get a refund....or do nothing.
You could even offer to sell it to the ex-girlfriend if she wants to go herself. But you certainly can't expect her to pay for something that was intended to be a gift AND she isn't going to receive.0 -
