Quidco Check-In

I've tried out Quidco Check-In in a couple of places and it's a bit hit and miss in an indoor shopping centre (I guess the GPS gets confused or blocked), but I've totted up £3.30 for taking a walk.

I've looked around but I can't see whether the check-in is an once only thing, or whether it is available at the same shop again another day or week. Can anybody advice on that?

Also, it occurs to me that it relies on data transfer; I guess that in some cases it might cost more to refresh your position, reload the list of available stores, and do a check-in, than the 10p or whatever you get. Has anybody checked that out?

If you are on pay as you go data - its probably not worth it as you keep having to refresh the data for the GPS position to be more accurate. I've heard that using wifi makes it more accurate (and would be cheaper if the wi fi is free) but I found in London when flipping between BT Openzone and The Cloud that my quidco app would not refresh at all, had to set it to 3G.

As for repeating- if its anything like the first few retailers that came on board when it was first released, they repeated every week or two. It might also be dependant on how much the retailers are having to pay out - they might drop out of the scheme early etc if everyone starts checking in (without actually buying anything!).

Personally I love this app - its almost like all those other 'free' game apps you get on the smart phones where you have to wait hours / days for some sort of virtual cash or gift for building/doing something - but in this case its real cash and its great exercise trying to get them all! Its like Check-in Monopoly !

Hey - if you can make £5 a fortnight - thats £130 a year just for going for walks! Lets hope it takes off - imagine if ALL the main chains did it!!

The biggest irony of course with this is if you can afford something like an iphone with a monthly contract - would you really be bothered to go through all this pain for 5p here and 20p there?! Personally I do as its fun and it gives me something to go for a walk for + it doubles my sons pocket money - but if you have to drive miles to do it or go massively out of your way to get the check-ins - then probably not worth it.

These are all the ones I have either done ('Confirmed') or I see as available - if you notice any more or if any disappear then please let me know and I'll update. I have now added in the check-in times so we can get an idea of repeating patterns of the ones I have done.

Like you, I've been out for a walk, but I almost got obsessive trying to collect all of the check-ins.

On Martin’s write up of this he mentioned a Facebook/Twitter ‘share’ of each check in pretty much doubles what you get (and in some cases more) but can see no mention of this anywhere other than this site. What’s the deal with this?

I've been trying to use this app today but even when I'm standing in the middle of the shop the app seems to think I'm 0.14 miles away and it won't let me check in!

It's driving me mad, I've tried refreshing, switching location on and off, logged into the store wifi, logged out and used 3G etc, etc and it still won't work.

Does anyone have any tips please?

Sometimes it gets in a pickle. Look at the map for that retailer and go watch your blue dot and walk around until your blue dot is nearing it - or just refresh to see how far away you are then walk off in a direction and see how much its changed then evetually you know which direction to walk off in to get to where the GPS 'thinks' the retailer/you are !

At some point though you'll start to think 'is it worth it?!' - maybe just skip this one and move on to the next - although if you are like me - its the challange of getting it that makes it fun!

Thanks for that. I managed to get one of the shops in the end!

I've noticed that my nearest Sainsburys and Boots aren't on the app at all, is it only certain branches that are on there? I presumed it would be every store in the country.

I think once you have checked in at one shop the other branches are not listed.....I had loads of telcos listed to check in to, then checked into one and the rest disappeared

I used the quidco check in feature for the first time on Thursday and managed £1.90 in a 10 minute circular walk around town. I found that I didn't even have to go into any of the shops and if I stood between 2 shops I could get them both and even the ones directly across the road. I also spotted someone else who was quite obviously doing the same thing. The app did crash everytime I clicked check in but once reloaded it confirmed that I had checked in. I don't go into town too often (pretty much do all shopping online) but will now do the circuit when I do. I'm not on facebook or twitter but might be tempted just to double the earnings. It's not much but added up over the course of a year it's worth doing.

Would it work on cheap androids though? My son's just signed up to a 27p a month contract for 2 years with a free galaxy Y, including 500MB of data.

It's not guaranteed of course (the topcashback, or the mobiles.co.uk redemptions) but even so, it's an android phone on a £7.50 pm contract :)

I have been using the app for a good while now but after the last update I too have the problem of the app crashing every time I check in, its a real pain its also now harder for it to locate your position. Like standing outside a CPW and its telling me im 400 mtrs away then refreshing it and I am now 409 mtrs away when I havent moved.
