want to tax car, ex has logbook, I own the car

I bought a car a while back, and as we where both driving it my ex was the registered keeper, to make the insurance cheaper. However we have now split up and I want to tax the car, but she won't let me have the logbook even just to get it taxed ! She said she is going to SORN it ! The car is completely mine and I have been driving it for the past six months, she is just doing it to get back at ne because I left her.
Is there anything I can do to get it taxed ?

Can you prove that you own the car?

You don't need the log book to tax a car.

Edit- I am assuming you have been sent the reminder from the DVLA?

You could try telling her that if she SORNs it and it's seen on the road, or reported (who would do that....?) then she'll get the fine, just as she will if it's not taxed.
Doesn't help you drive it legally, but there's probably an easier way for her to make life difficult for you.

Do you have the taxation reminder and is it in your name? If yes very simple to do. Get documents together, that is MOT/insurance certificate and take it all along to nearest PO issuing the discs. To own a vehicle, it is the name that is on the purchasing receipt that is proof of who owns it and paid for it. Registered keeper can be anyone. I am owner for both of our cars, but registered keeper only on mine. I paid for both cars.
Getting the car taxed is at the moment more important. Might be worth ringing DVLA up re the V5c and seeing what can be done about it all. They should have a procedure to deal with this I am sure. Of and if you do not have the reminder thing, the post office should have the relevant form or DVLA may have a downloadable version that you can print off to use instead.

So you deliberately went out to deceive the insurance company and now this has well and truly back fired?

I wonder if this could be classed as fraud against the insurance company

No ? We both drove the car, lived at the same address etc, so there is no fraud whatsoever. Jog on.

She has the reminder, as the logbook is registered to that address. I basically forgot it was registered in her name, until now. I don't have proof if purchase as it was a private sale :(

I've just changed my taxi, and bought privately, from one of our controllers.

Can you show money leaving your bank account for roughly what the car is worth at around the time you bought the car?

    This would be another option.

OH owns her car, it's in my name, but for as long as she makes the monthly payment, it's hers (the finance is joint).

Unfortunately not, the car was bought with savings which paid back Monthly, I probably screwed. That's the problem with breaking up with somone is so evil and bitter I suppose, she has kept all the savings too, lives in the house which I pay half the mortgage for, with everything I own apart from my clothes.

That's not what you indicated in post 1.
Insurance companies ask who is owner not who is reg keeper!
