Going to go a bit deep for a Sunday night:rotfl:, but watching the closing ceremony of the Olympics and thinking all those people and all those nations in one place IN HARMONY with such a good feeling - why can't the whole world be like that, and if not the whole world, why not just the street or village you live in?
I feel as if somewhere along the lines of evolution we have lost sight of humanity?
Told you it was deep, or it could just be the cider talking:rotfl:.:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j

Is anyone else sick of posting comps to get replies like 'Link doesn't work' or 'I can't login' with no clicking of the thanks button or even a 'Thanks for the comp OP but I can't login / the page isn't loading / whatever the issue is etc'
Ok if you don't want to click thanks til you've successfully entered, I can understand that but a simple acknowledgement of the OPs efforts would be polite.
Grrrr.
Thanks for that. As you were
Good luck everyone
Els x
I'd agree Elsie.I tend to "double tap" thanks & entered in the same move.Even on a dupe I'll tend to thanks as I see that the OP has at least tried to contribute to our community of compers.
If I spot someone has spotted a dupe & asked for a merge I usually thank as well.
The most strange thing that I've seen of late though is discriminatory thanks. As mentioned here, here& here
It's a strange place the internet, where none of of us really know the others that we see posting on here but we decide our thanks clicking via some slight or dislike it seems to lessen the board,in my view.To see a prolific poster of comments do it to a prolific poster of comp threads is all the more disheartening & not in the spirit of this board.
Just my view & probably some will disagree.0 -
I always get super excited when I afind comps but then am always hugeley dissapointed when I find that someone else has discovered it.. I think Ive posted a total of 2 comps, which makes me feel lollike a poor contributerJan 2019 Wins:Cinema projector worth £500Feb 2019 Wins: £50 Miller & Carter Voucher, Co2 Monitor, Tickets to the Photography show0

So many sites are monitored by the regular posters it can be hard to find an unposted comp.
Please do not feel that you are not contributing to the "community" by not posting comps though.Maybe spot the odd duplicate & pm the merge or help on answers. All assistance is welcome.
Just a click of the "Thanks" button is contributing as well :-)0 -

Its an individuals right to click thanks or not, i guarantee as this is an open forum their will be far more people who dont click thanks than those who bother to do so and that is indeed, their right.
Call me selfish but i dont have time to engage in a debate about this, some people will and some people wont click the thanks button, simple as that.
It is also a sad state of affairs when people are worried about wether someone has thanked someone or not, their are far more important things to worry about like actually entering competitions and not engaging in petty little squabbles over a few thanks:think:
Hi,maybe some would call it ego & some would call it pleasantness to thank others efforts.Personally I think it is a great part of MSE that is not a part of other comp portals in the UK,in that we can show our thanks of others efforts.
Plus without the efforts of the comp posters this board would wither & die. It's all very well having a lively "Compers Inn" or "Discussion Board" but without comps being posted on the main board we may as well shut up shop & go home,as it were. The main board is the the true purpose of this section & hopefully we will all respect & thank the efforts of all the members that take the time to find the comps & post them for us.
I just feel that discriminatory thanks is not the way forward & should not be a part of this board. If we enter a comp that a member has found & posted for us surely the least that we can do is thank them.It is not an ego thing but just good manners or am I missing something?
Personally I'm well beyond counting a few thanks as I have other drivers in posting comps for others to enter.Posting a few edited conditions of entry also keeps me active on here as well.If some thank on these that's fine but I've found it handy to be able to look back on a comp's conditions.
It's nice to see a new member jumping to "The Compers Inn" so quickly. Most seem to hold off for a bit but there are lots of AE's about as well.We all seem to have a certain style of posting on here that marks us out,as I have mentioned in the past.I could post via another user name but would soon be spotted as I tend to layout my post in a certain way & add "gifs" & " smilies" in certain ways as well.
Good luck as a new member on here :-)

Not wanting to muddy the waters or cause a huge debate, but we are all entitled to our own opinions and operate in our own way. Regarding the THANKS button, I personally use it on a thread like this to remind me how far back I have read and then move forward from there. Sometimes I forget or don't look for a couple of pages and don't thank and I am sure no-one thinks any less of me.
Newbies (no disrespect intended) may or may not remember a time when there was no ENTERED button, so the THANKS button was used as a way of knowing which comps you had and hadn't entered, and I suppose for me old habits die hard so I use the THANKS button, nothing sinister or rubbing peoples egos, just using a button that is there.
EDITED TO ADD Thanks for quoting the post weeowens, would have looked a right berk people reading my post and the original not being there!!!!:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j
