HD tv for free?

I have a HD ready TV and we also have Sky + we were considering upgrading to Sky HD but are a bit reluctant to pay £10 a month for the priveledge.

Is there a way we can get a HD picture for free (other than a one off charge for box) and still watch / use Sky+ ?

Thanks :)

Buy a Sky+HD box off Ebay or Sky if you are feeling flush!, or A Freeview HD box, or replace your TV with one with a Freeview/Freesat HD tuner.
You'll then be able to view the 4 HD free to air channels.

No such thing as a free lunch I'm afraid.

Thanks, I suppose there isnt and I will either have to pay £10 or not pay £10 ..... decisions descisions! ;)

Fingers crossed that Sky give it for free as standard sooner or later as technology advances, I would have thought they would already be doing this as a way to reel more potential customers in with the recent digital switch over.

I am half expecting prices to rocket next year when their subscription price freeze expires and they compensate for their loss with a hike. By then I will have to think again seriously as to how much it is really worth before I get addicted to any more programms only shown on pay to view Sky channels! :(

    Thanks again :)

The HD channels are free on both Freeview and Freesat. Combined with a PVR for the relevant platform, you will have no ongoing cost at all. Much better than paying £120 pa forever.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

They do, all new Sky boxes are HD, you get the FTA HD channels whether you subscribe to the HD pack or not.

FYI the price rises in September are £1.50 for the entertainment and entertainment + packs, no increase in movie prices and 50p or a £1 for Sir Alex.

 Thats an additional £18 a year ! _pale_

I think I will be downgrading at that rate not upgrading !

I just dont see how they can justify the price hikes all the time other than the fact they just can.

You are not serious surely. They haven't increased prices for two year - virtually all other prices and their costs have risen during those two years.

You can probably save £18 / year by not overfilling your electric kettle.

You can save over £180 per year if you take a hit in the first year and buy a Freesat HD+ box and connect it where the Sky+ goes.

Its barely been 12 for my subscription. No surprise though as I figuered it was coming someone has to subsidise boxes for the digital switchover. Still it's hardly a saving .

and then lose the Discovery channels and Sky 1 ?

It's not really comparing Apples with apples IMHO.
