This is just going round in circles.

You say the cashback comparison sites pay cashback if you use them to just switch your tariff with your existing supplier.

I have quoted the cashback conditions from both simply switch and your favourite - money supermarket. Both say you must switch to a new supplier to get cashback.

Here's the energyshop's condition for paying cashback:
Switch both your home gas and electricity supply from one supplier to a dual fuel deal with another supplier through the Cashback website and you’ll receive £20.00 cashback.

It is no good saying phone and ask them - anything a customer service agent says cannot change their conditions as quoted.

Ok Ok you are right Quentin, how dare I disagree with your infinite wisdom.

Obviously the £30 i recieved for switching my tariff from British Gas standard to Click Energy has just appeared out of thin air hasn't it. Like I said question the T's & C's with them and ask for written confirmation.

Your credibility over this matter is stretched with this angry reply:

You earlier suggested using a cashback site as a way of switching tariffs without switching suppliers and get paid cashback.

I pointed out that cashback sites need you to switch supplier to get any cashback.

You argued I was wrong, and that it was not necessary to switch supplier.

I quoted from 3 different cashback sites conditions showing you must switch supplier to get any cashback.

Finally after many posts you post that you in fact have done this, and received cashback for doing so.

The cashback you now late in the day say you got (why not mention this at the outset, and if not then much earlier in the thread when the argument broke out) is the amount for switching both gas and electricity.

Yet earlier you grumbled because you couldn't take advantage of the Scottish Power product you started the thread about as you only had electricity??

    Hi, Woby_Tide,

Fantastic, these two are legends and were great on The Weakest Link.

Quentin, sorry about the angry post but bad day in work. Just sounded like you were trying to undermine me in all of my posts. Like I said I don't use this forum to make stuff up. As you can probably tell I'm very new to the forum so maybe my wording needs working on.

In regards to the cashback I got I didn't feel the need to mention this earlier. In my experience I've always found it better to query things like T's & C's over the phone and was told that I would get the cash back which is why I went ahead with it. £30 for a dual fuel switch. Earlier I just said it was a shame that Scottish Power couldn't offer it to electricity only customers.

Anyway, in the past now so hopefully we will speak again soon in a more dignified manner :)

I e-mailed them the other day (I recently switched to Scottish Power for gas and electricity and am on their current online energy tariff) and they wrote saying "Currently the On-Line energy Saver 3 package is only available to customers transferring to Scottish Power. All other packages available our shown on our website. I would also like to take this opportunity to assure our customers that we are committed to continually review our prices to ensure we are competitive. We are currently reviewing our options given the changes happening in the marketplace. We will advise customers of any price decreases."

This is the correct situation (as posted earlier).

Energy Saver 3 is not yet available, but comes into effect on 5/4/07.

When they say it is only available to customers transferring in, they mean that new customers can sign up for it now, and when their transfer is completed (which will be after the effective date of 5/4/07), then the tariff will apply.

If you persist on the phone you can get through to the right department (on-line accounts) who will put you onto their system so that you are transferred to the new tariff on 5/4/07.

Or if you wait till nearer that date before contacting them, then hopefully all their staff will know about it and can help to move you across to it.

When energy saver 2 was launched they attempted to say it was for "new customers only", but soon realised that any existing customers would vote with their feet if they didn't allow tariff switches.

What happend to online energy saver 1. Did it end? What has happened to customers who were/are on it, what do they pay now?

Hello Quentin, thanks for the advice in this post. I had read your previous posts and simply wanted to post the response I got from SP to highlight the kind of response customers may be getting at this time (unless they follow the route of hanging on a bit or getting through to the right department). It's just the impression they may give is that current dual fuel customers won't be able to switch as if energy 3 will only be for new customers and so I thought I should point that out. It wasn't to contradict anyone as you had clearly stated the situation earlier.

Unless they switched to energy saver 2 they are being charged the rates that applied to energy saver 1.

The cost per unit is the same on both energy saver 1 and 2.

The difference is there is more fixed monthly discount applied to energy saver 2.
