You would think that they would have the ability to delete an item they dont have from the system or mark the PLU code as unknown/not recognised.0 -
Same thing happened to me in aldi last week but luckily i noticed at the till - was charged for an ironing board instead of bag of carotts - when i brought it to the girl on the tills attention she said that fruit and veg has now got a 2 digit number on the bag and if the cashier inputs it as a 3 digit number some other random thing goes through the till...glad you finally got yours sorted gingergirl0

I noticed the other day that the veg had 2 digits on them, so much easier when the numbers are on the packaging rather than going by memory for the codes.0 -
Hi,
yes this happened to me in colwyn bay. Lad was scanning my super 6 and whoppsied items, up comes a £250 tv! Luckily, I had not paid.
Always check there since, as they always miss the 30% or50% cheaper stickers.0 -

I always put my reduced items at the start of the shopping (if I will have loaded before they start, if not, at the end) so that I can check the price registered on the till.
I also always quickly scan the receipt after I leave the till so that I can catch any big mistakes. Because I've just loaded the trolley I pretty much spot any mistakes easily.0 -

Was in one of the North Wales Aldi a while back and a lady in front of me contested her receipt from her last shopping trip, the assistant basically told her to go do one. Dislike the store and the staff completely and if it wasn't the only supermarket within a 20 minute walk from my house last year I would never have frequented the place again.£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January0

I know this isn't about Aldi, but I have done something similar to this at work. I know most of the PLUs (numbers) to loose and prepacked fruit and veg off by heart. Me knowing many of the prepacked f&v has saved a lot of time - esp when we get a week or two where the barcodes aren't printed properly.
On the odd occasion, I have typed the number too quickly and two numbers get swapped. I remember seeing Okra coming up - we don't sell that and voided it off quickly and put the right code.
When I go around any supermarket, I roughly guess the cost of my shopping as I go around. I am normally about 3-4% out either side. If my shopping I guessed to be say £25 and came up at £75, I will question it before payment0 -
I was in my aldi last week and I overheard the assisstant manager telling a couple that all the product numbers had changed recently, and staff had to re-memorise all the new numbers - maybe this is what caused the problem?0

You would think that they would have the ability to delete an item they dont have from the system or mark the PLU code as unknown/not recognised.
That would cause other issues which is why most retailers will keep the plu/ana (whatever name you want to call it) for a specific item wether in stock or not.
Firstly if a customer returned one when sold out there would be no quick way to refund as plu's tend to be set up at head offices, you could have a central plu for returns but then stock files would be corrupted as the item wouldn't relate to anything. Secondly if the plu was deleted it could be reused which would mean the next time the item came into stock it would have to go on another plu meaning for returns etc there would already be two plu's for potential returns and one of them relating to a different product when the plu was reused. Also the same issues for stocktakes or internal sales from store to store.
There is always a chance of error when typing plu's which is why most stores these days try and avoid using them and stick to barcodes that scan, unless the product is something without packaging there's no reason not to use barcodes it just leads to errors.
Saying that though a few years back whilst working at a supermarket i had to void a packet of grapes that a customer was being charged 499.99 for as there was two barcodes on the packet and one related to a tv.0
