Thats a lot of money to be out of, hope you get it sorted. I always check y receipt in store as overcharging happens all too often for my liking.

I once bought a step machine - when I looked at the receipt later, although correctly priced, it was listed as a lawnmower. I could only get back to Aldi a few days later but they were fine, couldn't give me a new receipt but made a signed & dated note on the old one.

On another occasion (can't honestly remember whether it was ALDI or LIDL), the receipt showed something that I hadn't bought. I can't remember what it was but when I went back to the shop & queried how could something I hadn't bought show on it as all the items I had bought were on there correctly just with one additional item.

They explained that for speed, they keep the barcode of some Manager's Specials items at the till as it takes time to find it on some of the bulkier items & they assumed the assistant accidentally scanned the list at the till.
  • All cashiers have CCTV on them - ask them to view it.
The receipt will have the time on it.

It sounds like in this case it might have been due to the dodgy barcode number, but there is a supermarket scam where you get charged for extra items...

I work round the corner from a Tesco, and people at my work have noticed that often when they go to pay the price is slightly higher than they expected, or only notice when they check the receipt later that they've been charged for an extra item. I think this is because the staff are scanning in mystery items (usually its small things like crisps or chocolate) so that a stock-check will come back correct but they can help themselves to these items when they fancy a snack. We found that they usually only do it when ppl pay with card, maybe because you're less likely to think about the exact amount than someone who clearly has coins or notes ready to pay with.

Don't worry had this happen to me before in aldi's to. I noticed in the car when i checked my receipt. They oranges had gone through as memory foam pillows twice. When i went back in and said i hadn't bought them he asked if i had bought oranges i said yes, he then went through the back must have been checking cctv apologised and refunded the money. I am sure you will get it sorted.

I remember when the very first self-service supermarket opened round our way. We knew one of the newly-trained cashiers who was shocked to be told by the manager that they all had to keep a small item such as a packet of salt or a bar of chocolate by the till. Each item was individually priced in those days and the cashiers were supposed to ring up the cost of the small item on everyone's bill but not give them the product.

Most people didn't notice because it was a low value item. If anyone complained, the cashier was to apologise and say they thought the item was part of the person's shopping.

When you think how many customers passed through the tills, it added up to a substantial amount of money each week. Whether that went through to the head office or the manager skimmed it off, we never knew.

Or at least some way to identify the cashier eg a cashiers number.

Let us know what happens OP.
  • i once got charged £100 odd extra on my bill from sainsburys for a packet of ham!!
no i didnt notice at till as just handed over card, it was late, just came out of gym and wanted to go home to eat and sleep.

fortunately i looked at receipt at home and saw what had happened:o
it was too late then to go back again, they told me the next day on phone..oh just bring reciept in next time you shop as if it was 50p or something. needless to say i was over first thing in the morning.
thankfully for me it was a cashier mistake and i got money refunded back and she had mistyped but it was quite worrying at the time:o

  • Just back from Aldi.40 mile round trip. I got a refund as the item I bought, an electric cultivator, had not been in stock for months, so there was no question that I could have taken one. I took to the store the spring onions I found that were missing from my receipt. The silly check out boy then said after I signed for my refund. "Oh will I put the spring onions through now as you haven't been charged for them" I could not believe it!! "I don't think so" I said "I have came here especially to get a refund for YOUR mistake and now you want to charge me 50p ( or whatever) for the spring onions." and walked out!!
Thanks everybody for their comments and help.

You'd think the till wouldn't let you buy something they don't have, wouldn't you!
