Up until this year my holiday started when the job I was on finished so I usually had 2 or 3 days notice.
As soon as I knew I was on my way home my wife started looking, we usually went away within a couple of days of booking0 -
Brilliant thank you, gives us some hope then, like i say not fussy where we go apart from the two places i mentioned,as long as its hot, half decent accomodation and AI i dont mind just want a get away for us both as it will be our first time away togetherUp until this year my holiday started when the job I was on finished so I usually had 2 or 3 days notice.

I've had some very cheap flights in August (though not last minute). August is not generally expensive for flights, as everyone goes on holiday at different times. Half terms are much more expensive because everyone goes and comes back at the same time.Could you ask for the money early? I know its abit cheeky but if you ask and explain the reason?
The reason I say that is the cheapest point to book a last minute package is 6wks to 3wks before. You are travelling very peak season so you really wouldnt get a good deal at the very last minute.
Flights are going to be very expensive anywhere in August, but if you went with Barcelona as someone suggested above, you do have the option of paying for hotel on check out if you book direct with someone like Sol/Melia for example.
If you could get the money early you would stand a much better chance of getting a good deal.
Edited to add: sorry just realised you said you asked your guests for cash, I thought you said parents. Sorry I dont think you could go and ask your guests for the cash early. Could you borrow the money? (thats what I would do) x0 -
I think that this is one time when it makes sense to use credit cards and book in advance. In the world of travel, "last minute" means at least two weeks in advance, and the process of issuing tickets and making reservations could mean that precious child-free time gets wasted.0

I have always said that last minute deals are the way to go, and in the past we have had really good deals travelling within a week of travel. For some reason the deals aren't there at the last minute this year.
I have been watching prices myself for the last few months and the peak for a deal is 3/4 weeks before. The prices then seem to go back up, or the holiday dissapears. I am mainly looking at Turkey, Carribean and Canaries.
I'm not saying you wont get a deal, there will be holidays available, but they wont be at the 'cheapest price'. If you consider SC to greece then I think that will be your best bet.
What budget do you have?£100 - £10,0000 -
I don't want to rain on your parade but your plans appear to hit the end of the Olympics. It is clear many people have not booked holidays for the first two weeks of August from the UK so they can be here and flight bookings for the second two weeks are much higher than normal. This suggests you should not leave it too late to book as there may be very little left.Greece will certainly have accommodation available, they are throwing at operators but they have cut back flights because of the lack of demand. As others have said if you could wait even to the end of August you might do better or else think of somewhere that no one would think of as a honeymoon destination, we went to Helsinki for 4 nights, in the summer the hotels are almost empty so prices fall , no we didn't get a tan but we had a great time!0

In mid August?
Yes, it's usually been August
There's always been something acceptable0 -
Thanx.
In reply to a question above we dont own a credit card we deal cash or debit cards only.
I dont mind going to greece at all just aslong as we dont go to turkey or tunisia.
Needs to be hot, im half portugese so love the sun and love to go darker
Were not looking to go anywhere expensive of flash with clear blue sea's and white sands just somewhere hot with decent accomodation and AI.
In reply to another question, we are unsure on budget as we have asked for money as wedding gifts but i think in mind we did have about £1000 as we will add what we have saved and maybe have to top it up a bit depending on how generous everyone is0
