DS1 & I had fruit & custard last weekend. Not very money saving as it was bought custard & tinned fruit, & I realised too late that he'd had the lot at 1 time - it was a litre of custard & 2 tins of fruit cocktail! I do prefer homemade custard too, so it wasn't as good as the idea of it, but it's reminded me this is a good pudding, especially if I make the custard in advance so it's cold.0

Over recent years I have returned to mainly simple or what would. be called comfort food. Rice pudding and custard is now so cheap to buy and if as I am single it's just as easy to do that.
I have got back into Angel Delight but again as that usually makes a serving for four I have to eat a larger portion or make it last a couple of days...
Most meals are basic now(Cereals, fruit, salads, snadwiches)and then I have decide what to do for evening meals and they are all what we used to have probably when we were growing up as children...
It's good food and I doubt it will do any harm healthwise, as has been said elsewhere during hard times such as the war years we ere probably healthier in some ways to how we are now. Smaller portions and moderation.
I am going to start eating butter again, I don't eat alot of bread and I don't plaster the butter on any how."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I have started to have baked apples done in the microwave. They are so simple to do as well. Just core them, cut a line round the middle(so they don't split) fill with dried fruit, brown sugar and a teaspoon of golden syrup. Bake in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes, add custard, enjoy!
I have bought some commercial instant custard from Approved Foods, and it's lovely! As I am on my own one sachet will do me for four bowls.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

That has reminded me of an old family favourite of Bananas and custard. Hot or cold, it doesn't matter. Must try it again soon.

:-) mum used to do bananas & custard, but I'm not keen, so had my banana first, then got a bowl of custard. Then, when DS1 & DN1 were toddlers, I used to do custard with just cornflour sugar & a dash of vanilla extract, & grate peeled apples into it. Surprisingly yummy!0 -
When Mum was ill she tried stuff she would not normally have considered and had to admit it was not bad and not as she remembered it perhaps as a child...porridge and rice pudding..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
