Not a pie at all; to a large oven proof dish of mashed potatoes, she'd add plenty of grated cheese, some fried onions, salt, pepper and mustard, sometimes some left over cooked veg would go in, too. All mashed up together and baked until crispy on top.....
Ooh, my mum called it cheese & potato pie, so yummy! Her variant was mash, cottage cheese & sweetcorn.
She used to put the sauce for spag bol in the blender so we couldn't say 'but I don't like...', real comfort food for me. It has to be done with dry tvp mince too, none of this modern frozen vegemince malarkey ;-)0 -
sounds like my bubble and squeek
fry a chopped onion and whatever leftover veg and fry slowly for ages
then when heated through, turn up the heat to burn it a bit (yummy).
whack it on a plate with lots of grated cheese on top and beans on the side.
(i like an egg on top too)

mmm egg and chips. We have this when we get back from holidays. Delicious.
One thing I hated with a vengeance as a child was marmite on toast. Then I got persuaded to try it again a couple of months ago and I discovered it really is yummy and is now my CBA-to-cook snack.0 -

Had mince and dumplings the other night. Read about it on someone's blog and thought ooooh yes. Haven't made dumplings for ages as mine always sank straight to the bottom of the pan like depth charges and had the same effect on your digestion. By some stroke of luck they worked this time and it was soooo delicious. Was 10 years old again for a few happy minutes . Simple pleasures
I made this last night after seeing it on Hairy Bikers and it really was delicious

It has to be eggy bread for me! We used to have it when we were camping in the Lakes, in the 70's. After a day spent hiking and playing in streams, finding bits of quartz and swimming in the larger pools. Ahh... then heaps of eggy bread and orange juice... heaven!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.
