Thanks for the advise. I'm having to claim retrospective care as she has since passed away. I think I've got the jist that I contact my local PCT first, but then I'm not sure where to go from there. The care home she was in will give me copies of the assessments made.0

How did you find Care Home Claims in the end?
Originally you seemed to be having problems0 -
My Dad was diagnosed with Dementia in 2005. He was admitted to hospital in July 2006 and from there to a geriatric 'holding pen' where he was kept until I found a care home to look after him. I wasn't allowed to look after him and was told that he would HAVE to go into a care home. I applied for financial help and only part of his fees were paid by the local authority as they said he didn't qualify for NHS funding as he didn't need nursing care? I paid his fees.
My Dad was incapable of walking unaided, couldnt feed himself properly, couldn't wash himself , certainly couldn't administer his own medication, was unable to dress himself. He didn't know who or where he was. Following his last admission to hospital after another fall at the care home, he was finally assessed as qualifying for NHS funding. I was unable to get him a place in a care home that had a mental health nurse as they only accepted people who were NHS funded???
Unfortunately Dad died on 1st June 2007 while in hospital following his latest fall at the care home. My Dad was not safe to left alone as he would try to stand and because of the effects of his strokes, he had no feeling in his left leg so would regularly fall. The care home administered some kind of tranquiliser liqiod to keep Dad 'quiet' so thet he wouldn't hurt himself.
I don't know what to do. I don't think that my Dad should have had to pay fees a I believe that he shoud have qualified for NHS funding.
Does anyone have any suggestions please.0 -
care home claims seems OK to deal with, and have a good understanding of problems its the solicitors they pass your claim details onto that seem to be the real problem. I am still waiting for an answer to my queries from Key Point Law as they sent me a second No Win No Fee agreement to sign which differed from the first one they sent me, which I signed and sent back originally. I am beginning to feel as if I should'nt have bothered doing anything.holisticlee wrote: »How did you find Care Home Claims in the end?

PS Care Home Claims get a slice out of anything their solicitor Key Point Law recovers so thats probably why they are so understanding in the first place.0 -

I was hoping you were going to say it had improved. You see I have been asked to help a friend with a claim who really wants to use the company but I'm concerned by all I've read that they'll be time wasters as well as being a rip off. I think I'll have to respect their decision though.0 -
Still waiting too! The solicitors have now asked for some documentation that we had already sent, so we had to get it signed and sent again. Lord knows how long this is going to take! I think it's best we just forget about it and assume that nothing will happen. I will update this thread if there are any developments though.0
