  • I'm feeling better today, probably mostly because I only had to get up once last night and managed to get five hours of unbroken sleep :)

It's a bank holiday in Scotland today, but I want to keep up with the orders so 28 got packed, sacked and sent out even though they won't get very far today. I also managed to sort out a problem with a Belgian customer (she wasn't the problem, PayPal had some sort of glitch over there in mid-December) and rescued a £45 order I thought was going to get cancelled.

Day 4 in the Big Brother hospital and I haven't managed to kill him with my cooking yet ;) Roasted gammon with a leek and broccoli cheesey bake tonight (and chips for Mr Minx) - there'll be plenty of gammon left over for sandwiches, plus there's enough of last night's bolognese left over to do an Italian omelette tomorrow and I have some tortellini in the fridge for when I get an 'I can't be bothered' night. I'm shopping tomorrow a) to avoid my mother in law and b) because Mr Minx has a pizza craving :D

  • Hi Caz, just checking in and catching up. Starting a new diary for 2014 for myself. Far too tired at the mo so will catch up properly soon.

Found you new diary and subscribed :T

A quick Friday scores on doors as I should be packing orders (the post office is shutting at 2 today, so I have to be prompt).

    Business
    Overdraft: -£-5248.64 / -£5948.54 -£699.90

    Business total: -£5248.64 / -£5948.54 -£699.90

    Personal
    Egg card: -£5450.00 / -£5450.00 no change
    Barclaycard: -£2330.00 / -£2330.00 no change
    Nationwide card: -£2510.00 / -£2480.00 +£30.00

    Personal total: -£10290.00 / -£10260.00 +£30.00

    Grand total: -£15,538.64 / -£16,208.54 -£669.90

Moving in the wrong direction again, as you can see :( And the business total should be £1884.09 worse off as I made a supplier payment yesterday that they obviously haven't put through on my card yet.

I've been working out where the 'lumpy' parts of the year are for cashflow.

    January - dog's vaccinations (£40), re-glaze glasses (one-off, am budgeting £100, hope it'll be less).
    February - car tax (£140)
    March - car insurance (£175)
    April - contact lenses (£80)
    May - home insurance (£150)
June, July, August, September - nothing
    October - heating oil (£340)
    November - tyres (£230), dog's insurance (£95)
    December - service & MOT (£200)

So I definitely need to make hay while the sun shines, as it were! Though this does confirm that I don't need more than £500 in my float for any month, so a £500 float plus a £500 emergency fund (ha!) should be sufficient.

It's not less :( The postman flagged me down as I was leaving the post office today as he had something for me to sign for - turned out to be my spectacle frame and they've done a fantastic job :) Not only does the frame look like new, they've given me a new case and sent them back recorded delivery as well! Since I was headed over to Wick to get some food and pick up another tub of Finn's supplement from the tack shop, I called in at the optician to drop them off and arranged to scan and email over my prescription.

As I'm blind as a bat, normal lenses would be too thick for the frame so it was always going to have to be thinned ones. They asked me how often I wore them and when I said it was just the occasional evening to give my eyes a break from my extended wear contact lenses (which I sleep in most of the time), they said I didn't need the super-duper thin ones then, the slightly thinned ones would do as due to the shape of the frame the thickest part of the lens would be ground off. Unfortunately they're still £155 :(:(:( And I forgot to tell them I have a slight astigmatism as well, which may add to the cost :(:(:(:(

I doubt MSE's swear word filter will let me type what I'd like to type, so I shall restrict myself to BOTTOMS!!!!
  • I'm slowly getting the to-do list done. Top of it today was sorting out mother-in-law's buildings and contents insurance. She's been with Zurich for donkeys' years and her renewal came through at £486 which I thought was a bit steep for a 1960s semi-detatched worth £120k max with low-value contents and about 20 years no claims bonus. Sure enough, a quick search revealed that she should be paying about £130. The second cheapest quote was from Tesco, which is a name she knows and trusts, so I rang the lovely couple who take her shopping every Saturday morning and they were still having a cuppa in the Tesco cafe, so they've got her a leaflet and I'll go over tomorrow and metaphorically hold her hand while she makes the call (she won't let me do it online).

People keep giving me cash at the moment :) My mother in law insisted on giving me £60 to pay for all the diesel going up and down to Inverness to see/collect Mr Minx and then Mr Minx gave me £20 because I'll be doing all the shopping and running around after his mum for a bit. £30 or £40 of it will go to the farrier on Monday (depending on how much trimming he has to do) and the rest will be my cash fund for the next couple of months - if Robbie only charges me £30 then I'll try and make it last until the end of March.
  • Happy New Year! Hope it's a brilliant one :T

Booo to specs but yayyyy to people giving you money :rotfl:

Glad Mr Minx is recovering well and hope you aren't too worn out.
  • ...and hope you aren't too worn out.

    *whimper*

Today I got out of bed at 6.50am (having got up once at midnight to rearrange Mr Minx's bedding for him after he accidentally ended up knocking the duvet on the floor), took Mr Minx tea in bed, helped him get dressed, made his breakfast, made my breakfast, ate, worked out Mr Minx's morning tablets and took them to him, got dressed, took the dog out, weigh-taped the horses, fed the horses, put hay into the hay racks, mucked out the field shelter area, tried Finn's saddle on him with a longer girth and took some photos to get some advice about the fit, fed the dog, went to the annexe and packed up about a third of Monday's orders, helped Mr Minx do his lying down physio exercises, sat in the bathroom as a safety precaution while Mr Minx had a shower, got him some clean clothes, helped him get dressed, made us both lunch, ate, put the dishwasher on, went into town to collect some home made soup from my mother in law and help her buy her new insurance policy, took all the glass to the recycling centre, got some dog biscuits from the newsagent, whipped into Tesco for the smokey sausage and bacon Mr Minx had a craving for, drove home (town and back is a 52 mile round trip), emptied the dishwasher, walked the dog, mucked out the field shelter area, fed the horses, put hay in the racks, emptied the tack room bin, emptied the kitchen bin, fed the dog, cleaned the log burner out, lit the fire, refilled the log basket, refilled the kindling bucket, fetched clean sheets in from the annexe, changed Mr Minx's bed and then put supper on.

Supper will be finished in approximately 15 minutes and after that I'm officially on strike until it's time for Mr Minx to go to bed :rotfl: You know last year when Mr Minx wanted to go back to Mauritius and said he'd pay for me and I felt really bad about not being able to pay my half? If he wants to take me away somewhere nice and tropical in 2014 I will accept with absolutely no guilty feelings whatsoever :D:p
  • I've just remembered the hour of ironing that got fitted in between Mr Minx's shower and making lunch as well!
  • Hi has anyone ever had their Invisalign from a dentist called Sensu dental clinic? If so please could you tell me your experiences.

    Thank you xx
  • Hello Lisa - I think it's only me on this thread who's had Invisalign and that was with a dentist in Inverness. He's very good, but I'm guessing it's probably not anywhere near you :)

Another very busy day. I ended up with 50 orders to post and that's not counting the one from my lovely regular Australian customer who spent £250 last night and then sent me an email asking me to order her some more settings and hold the order so they could all be sent at once. I now have enough cash available to pay the eBay bill and the supplier bill due this week and then there's nothing big until the Royal Mail bill on the 22nd. Did I ever tell you guys how much it was in the end? I thought it would be less than the previous one, but it came in about £100 more at £1292 :eek:

I still don't know what the cash situation is, as the farrier cancelled my appointment today - he's been struck down with the lurgy that's doing the rounds, poor chap :( We're re-booked for Friday, as long as he's better.
