Not a lot to report today. I got a catalogue emailed through from another potential new supplier and a few of my friends are now very excited at the idea of Cthulhu cabochons
I'm idly wondering if I can get Flying Spaghetti Monster ones made as well
The Hatsu Crystal is now steaming towards Felixstowe and will dock at 1am tomorrow morning, which means that later this week I'm going to get a very large bill for VAT, duty and freight.0 -
Ooops, just remembered in time that it's my niece's birthday coming up. I'd actually agreed with my brother what to get her as a present weeks ago, but hadn't got round to ordering it. It's bought and paid for and, hopefully, on its way and I went into town with Mr Minx (who's having a week off) and got a card so we're all sorted.
Still a bit worried about the lack of sales - but I suppose it's half term in England and most of my customers are busy with their kids.
I've been playing a bit of poker again. I won a €0.25 sit & go tournament the night before last and am playing another as I'm writing this - in second place at the moment, but I need to knock out another 4 people before I win any money.0 -
Just finished, came 2nd, won €0.67
Not going to make me rich, this...!

Another day, another dollar - sales up slightly, thank goodness. Mr Minx has been working in the bottom field most of the day, taking out an old fence. I'm experimenting with the muck heap down there. Instead of spending ££££££ on fertilizer, which will a) make the grass much too lush for horses and b) be tricky to spread with the hill so steep, I'm spreading my well-rotted muck heap over the ground instead. I'm doing two barrowloads every day and a single barrow covers a surprising amount of ground. I'll either get fantastic grass that the horses will love and it'll save me some hay or they'll refuse to eat it because it tastes slightly sour and I'm going to be needing double the quantity of hay I have on order. Fingers crossed it's the former...
I had another go at the buildings insurance this afternoon, just for something to do. I managed to get a quote of £109 from esure, clicked to buy it and got a message saying they'd been processing other factors in the background while I filled in the application and were unable to accept my application  Renewal quote it is then...0 -
It looks like next Friday is delivery day
My freight agent says he'll be in touch next week to confirm the date and send me my invoices (ouch).
Mr Minx has had an excellent day today. I can't remember whether I've mentioned it on here before, but he's had a problem with his hip for the past 7 years, ever since he slipped on the kitchen floor and accidentally did the splits. Being a bloke, he never went to see anyone about it until it got really painful a couple of years later. The doctor sent him for x-rays, told him he was going to need a hip replacement and that he'd have to live with it for the next 15-20 years until he was old enough to have one. So for the past 5 years he's just been given stronger and stronger painkillers and his hip has seized up to the point where it's difficult for him to even put his socks on - he's only 45
Anyway, he decided enough was enough and today he had an appointment with the local osteopath to see if she could make him any more comfortable. She reckons he's not going to need an operation, but he does need her boss in Inverness to have a look at him before she does any manipulations and that's probably going to mean an MRI scan as well. That would be £1000 if he had it done privately, so she's writing to his GP to recommend he gets referred. Fingers crossed they'll do it0 -
It's Friday and it's also the last day of the month, so I'm going to bore you with weekly AND monthly scores on the doors today
(last week/this week/ + or - amount)
Business
Overdraft: -£-6649.52 / -£6434.45 +£215.07
Business total: -£-6649.52 / -£6434.45 +£215.07
Personal
Overdraft: -£79.61 / £-324.67 -£245.06
Egg card: -£3420.36 / -£3420.36 no change
Barclaycard: -£2615.00 / -£2615.00 no change
Nationwide card: £2714.44 / £2714.44 +no change
Personal total: -£8829.41 / -£9074.47 -£245.06
Grand total: -£15,478.93 / -£15,508.92 -£29.99
The big increase in the overdraft is from paying the house insurance (£139.02) and I haven't had my half of last week's shopping back from Mr Minx yet. Not sure I'm going to ask him for it though, because he's spent a lot of money on food this week (it's always lethal to the food budget when he takes a week off :rotfl:)
Anyway, on to personal debt for the whole of May...
Debt 30th April 31st May
Overdraft £3558.61 £324.67 -£3233.94
Egg card £400.00 £3420.36 +£3020.36
Barclaycard £2655.00 £2615.00 -£40.00
Nationwide £2741.85 £2714.44 -£27.41
Total £9355.46 £9074.47 -£280.99
Getting thereIt's a shame I tipped back over £9k - the buildings insurance payment hasn't actually cleared my account yet, but it'll show up with today's date when it does, so I thought I'd take the hit this month.
Next week's business figures are going to look pretty awful as not only do I have my drawings coming out, but I've got the VAT, duty and freight bills to pay as well. But the personal overdraft will disappear again, although it might take me another month after that to get shot of it completely.0 -
just logging on to see the scores on the doors!

Humph. The Daily Telegraph has decided that the place I grew up in is the most desirable suburb to live in in the whole of the UK (Sandbanks, Poole came second, which is really going to put some noses out of joint!), which means my dream of one day buying back my childhood home has got a little bit further out of reach. I am cheering myself up by looking at houses in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean instead
My niece's birthday present has arrived, which is a relief. I went upstairs to get something to wrap it in and found rolls and rolls of paper with robins and Santas and reindeer on it, but no birthday paper  I just hope there's some at the shop in Melvich, otherwise I'm going to have to drive all the way back into town on Monday.0 -
Mr Minx got bored this afternoon, so we ended up going back into town and I now have wrapping paper.
Other than that, not much to report. I've spread 18 barrow-loads of manure onto the bottom field this week and I reckon that the two lower fields between them are going to need around 200 barrow-loads. I've also done a couple of hours of weeding and digging in the garden, which I loathe, but it's sadly necessary.
Mr Minx is back to work tomorrow after his week off, so my life will settle back into its normal pattern again0
