Not a great day - I'm doing the May accounts for the business and it looks like I've only made about £500 profit for the month. Not quite sure what's gone wrong, I'll have to drill into the figures tomorrow and see if I can work it out.0
-
I'm an idiot - I put two new tabs on the stock spreadsheet this month and only linked one of them to the grand total I take the month end stock figure from

May's profit has now gone up to around £1400
Cash flow is a bit tight for the next few days. HMRC is taking the balancing payment for the VAT tomorrow (£98.94) and I owe a supplier £660.28 which is due on Friday. Some time between now and Friday I'm going to get a bill from my freight agent which will need to be paid before the stock is delivered. I know the VAT element on its own is going to be around £1100 and the freight quotes came to £900 (though they may be reduced slightly because they're both coming up from Felixstowe on the same load). No idea what the duty will be, it depends which code it goes through on. As of this afternoon I have £2779.21 available to pay it all with  I know I've got another £197 arriving in the business account tomorrow, but orders are woefully slow at the moment and it's going to be a bit squeaky!0 -
Leave off them spreadsheets wumman, The suns shining ! lol Get them horsies out for a gallop !Its just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0

One horsey is retired and the other is waiting for his new saddle to be delivered - it is VERY tempting to take him out today in the old one, but I'm certain it's digging into him somewhere when I get on, so it's really not fair to him to ride him until the new one gets here. That said, he's putting on weight like no-one's business on the summer grass, so he's going to have his little legs ridden off when it finally does arrive!0 -
Anyway, I'm too soft-hearted to disturb them

Oh, don't they look contented horsies! No wonder you don't want to disturb them.0

I ended up banking £350 this morning
HMRC has been paid and I've been slightly sneaky and sent a cheque to the supplier - it'll get there tomorrow, payment's due Friday, they're unlikely to bank it before next week, so it buys me an extra day or two. The freight bill is in and wasn't quite as bad as I'd feared, as my lovely freight agent managed to get me £100 off by putting both deliveries on one load. So £2111.19 has been sent to him this afternoon and once the supplier cheque has cleared I'll be left with £150.
The only slight potential problem is that the eBay fees for May will be taken out between 8th and 10th June and they're £382 - but since the 8th is a Saturday, I'm hoping that they won't try and take payment until Monday. I've got £50 ready to bank from PayPal at the moment, hopefully there'll be a bit more in there by tomorrow morning, so that only leaves me £182 short. Unless there's an absolute disaster, I should easily have that covered by Monday.0 -
I think I'm covered
£140 banked this morning and £98 in the PayPal account.
I had the shock of my life this morning when I logged into my First Direct savings account - they paid me interest! That's the first time anyone's paid me interest in years. Admittedly it was only 1p :rotfl: but it's a start.0 -
I hope you're leaving it in to growcazmanian_minx wrote: »

. Einstein allegedly said compound interest was the 8th Wonder of the World
. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

HOW is it Friday again already?? As promised, some pretty horrendous scores on the doors....

Grand total: -£15,508.92 / -£17,364.13 -£1855.21 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I think that may actually be a record since I started this diary! My only defence is that the business account took a hit of £3515.63 this week thanks to the freight bill, VAT balancing figure and paying myself, so it could have been a lot worse.
At least all that stock is about to arrive on my doorstep and I have people waiting for quite a lot of it so with a bit of luck next week will start to see sales pick up. The best delivery estimate my freight agent can get out of the haulage firm is 'Monday or Tuesday, probably Tuesday.' Fingers crossed it's Monday.
