Hi Caz, yes, I live in Scotland.. but much further south, and like the midge, my smallish size is in inverse proportion to my potential impact... However, I tend not to nip!
I get bitten quite a lot by midges when I visit the affected areas of Scotland in summer, but they are a fact of life in the warmth! Do they bother you? What about the horses?0 -
We're quite lucky in that we're right on the coast, so usually there's enough of a breeze that they're not too much of a problem. When it's still however....! Last summer I got woken up around 1.30 in the morning by the sound of galloping hooves outside, a cloud of midges had descended and the horses were being driven absolutely mad by them. Had to get up, go out there and try to calm them down enough to get fly rugs and Skin So Soft on them. I'm very, very lucky in that I can walk through a cloud of them and come out with maybe one bite, usually none, but Mr Minx is a total midge-magnet, they can smell him about a mile away!
Today's been the usual Saturday stuff with the one exception of we took MIL shopping with us because the people who normally kindly take her are on holiday. Merlin had his thrush treatment applied again this morning and I took some comparison photos - very pleased to see that his heels are decontracting and his digital cushions are beefing up nicely, which could only happen if he was weighting the back of his foot more and that would only happen if the thrush was clearing up.
Ran 10.23 miles in just under 2 hours this afternoon, very pleased with that too

Well, now I know why the eBay sales dropped off so fast - checked my feedback for the first time in ages and have picked up two neutrals in the last month, one due to non-delivery by Royal Mail and one saying they didn't think it looked anything like the photo
Can't wait to be shot of the beads.
We were supposed to take Mr Minx's mother out to lunch today, as it was her birthday midweek, but she called this morning to say she wasn't feeling very well and didn't think she'd do lunch any justice, so wasn't going to come. Since we had the reservation, we went by ourselves and had a fabulous full Sunday roast
Popped into Tesco on the way home to get birthday cards and another jar of manuka honey for Merlin's feet - when I bought one last year it was £9.99, now £11.99 :eek: but still cheaper than Field Paste at £25! Also filled up the car, as I had 16p a litre off, which saved me £7.38
We have possibly found a 4x4 - friend of a friend is selling one of their two Land Rover Defenders (doesn't mind which goes, but one of them has to!), one basic one and one with winches and all the proper technical off-road-y stuff. Since we only need a tow bar, it's the basic one we're interested in, but since I don't trust Mr Minx's eyes not to light up when faced with a range of boys' toys, I'm going with him to have a look at it!! The earliest we can all do is next Sunday and the only directions I have are 'drive to X and keep going, look for horses and Land Rovers', so it's going to be a bit of an adventure I think! If it turns out to be suitable, it will leave Mr Minx between £3k and £5k over from the insurance payout (depending on how much he gets) to pay off his credit cards.
I've also worked out that his Audi will pay for itself in just under 9 years in savings made in fuel, insurance and road tax over the truck, so feeling slightly less grumpy about it all now
Work today has been six files to proofread this evening and listening to a recorded phone call between Mr RPC and one of his strategic partners and turning it into meeting notes to be sent to both of them, so about £30 earned.0 -
Lots of proofreading work through from the agency today as well as a couple of files to type from Mr RPC
32 orders to go as well, so the neutrals maybe haven't slowed me down as much as I thought.
I managed to find time this evening to look into VAT de-registration and unfortunately/amazingly my 12-month turnover is still over the de-registration limit, so I'll have to give it another month or so until I can apply.
Spring is definitely coming up here - the car reckoned it was 10C here today (if you were out of the wind!) and I didn't go out to do the horses until 5pm and still managed to finish all the horsey jobs in daylight
Also got the ironing pile done, a load of laundry through and changed the bed linen, so I have cool, fresh Egyptian cotton to climb into tonight, bliss.....0 -

We are hopefully taking Mr Minx's friend, who is a bit of a Landy nut, with us
Mr Minx had a Jeep before the truck, but traded it in in disgust after it got stuck coming up the field (in the dry in summer!) and he had to get a tow off a smirking neighbour! Think there was something wrong with it, to be honest, but it was only 6 months old when he got it and the dealership claimed they could never find anything amiss.
I'm going to have lots of work coming through from Mr RPC over the next week, he has three big reports to get out next week and so we're working through them all. Some of the figures I'm dealing with are making me slightly green - I was listing out all the bank accounts related to the first report and the total liquid assets (cash savings and ISAs) came to a seven-figure sum. One day
