It's possibly a foolhardy one!! We'll see how it goes - no harm in trying :)

So, it's been a busy day and a half since I wrote that last update. Yesterday afternoon, after a lot of proofreading, I got this email from the proofreading manager.

    Hi Caroline,

How are you? You’ve been doing such a fantastic job of helping us out, we completely forgot that you’ve kinda been thrown in the deep end and haven’t had any feedback from us as to how you’re getting on! You star :) and my apologies for deserting you so completely :(
How have you been finding it so far? Any problems that you’ve encountered that you want to let us know about?

In order to see how you’re getting on, I’ve had a look at a couple of random files that you’ve completed recently and collated a bit of feedback for you. Just a few little things cropping up to keep an eye on, really – accuracy checks seem to be spot on, so it’s just formatting things.

[Specifics taken out because they'd possibly identify jobs / individuals]

I have attached the tracked changes documents with a few amendments and comments for you to take on board for future files (though note I’ve not gone through every page of every file!), but please don’t be disheartened at all – we all know there’s limited proofreading time to spot and correct all of these, and with experience you’ll definitely pick more and more up as you go. I do want to commend you in particular on your lovely comments you put at the bottom of typists’ reports – things like “Like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way” (I think that’s my favourite) which really do give the reports a more personal feel and create a positive vibe instead of coming across as negative criticism. Well done, thank you for all your hard work so far, and definitely keep it up!! :)

I had a :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D on my face for the rest of the day (still do actually!) I'm really loving this work and it's nice to know that, for a beginner, I'm doing okay :)

This morning we were up early but didn't want to go into town too early as we'd just end up hanging around waiting for Mr Minx's mum to get back from her shopping trip to Wick, so I went and did an hour's weeding in next door's manege. Didn't make much of an impression on it, but I got out two big flexi-tubs of grass, docks and chickweed. Then it was into town, round Tesco, a quick lunch and visit to mother in law, who was in a reasonably cheerful mood.

When we got home I thought I'd better check that the shoulder shims I bought for Finn's saddle were going to work in terms of levelling it up, because I have my second free session with Gemma booked for Friday morning. It's certainly looking much better:

I've put some pictures of it before and after riding on the manufacturer's Facebook page just to check I've got it right, but Finn certainly seemed to find it comfy enough. I put him back in the field, took Merlin for a quick walk up the road and then did another two hours of weeding in our garden.

    This evening has been quiet....!

Ye Gods, I'm knackered. After walking the dog this morning, I loaded up my Ghostbusters knapsack and went to kill some plants. The top bit of the shelter field needed spraying for docks and thistles (I actually closed the gate on Tuesday but only got round to spraying today, just hoping the weather stays dry for the quarantine period before the boys can use it again) and we seem to have grown a phenomenal amount of buttercups this year, which give horses blisters, so they needed to be sprayed as well. I can manage about two knapsacks' worth (24 litres) before my hand gives out (from squeezing the spray trigger) - I reckon I have about another two to go to finish the bottom field, but that's not quite as urgent.

After that, Mr Minx decided he wanted to go into town and get some cake to take to work tomorrow (it's his birthday!), so I blitzed the house and put some laundry on. He came back a couple of hours later with a bunch of flowers for me and two tubs of Ben & Jerry's :D

This afternoon I've been proofreading. The plan was to get the proofreading done and pack some orders, as it's been busy, but the proofreading took much longer than I expected thanks to very quiet audio (even turned up to the maximum with good headphones), strong accents and it being a different format to the usual files, which had caused a few misunderstandings with the transcribers and meant more changes had to be made than normal. So although I got through all my files for tonight (about £52-worth I think, I haven't put them in the invoice yet), I didn't get any orders packed up.

Normally that wouldn't be a problem, BUT as I was uploading checked files, new file assignments were coming in along with the file received notifications. At a rough estimate, I have £100-worth of proofreading assigned to me tomorrow :D:D:D much of it due back by 10am :eek: So instead of my normal leisurely breakfast in my dressing gown I think it's going to be alarm clock - into clothes - shovel down porridge - feed horses - chain self to computer - attempt to get all proofreading done and all orders posted out.

    Wish me luck!

I'm too knackered to be bothered to find a suitable smiley to express how I feel right now - put it this way, I started work at 7am this morning, it is now 10.40pm and I've just uploaded the last proofread file. I ended up with 39 orders to go, some of them large.

I've no idea how much I've earned from the proofreading and transcription in June, I have two days' worth of files to add to the invoice, but I suspect it's going to look healthier than I do right now!!

Morning Dr Flowers prescribes a sunny day. I hope you have one too.

Waves to GG :) and hope July is as productive as June but not quite so in your face crazy all at once.

Have a great day, what you at? (mutters still writing a report here)

It is a beautiful sunny day here :) I didn't get a huge amount of sleep, because Mr Minx has an important day at work and was up at 5.30, but I only have one file to proofread (a leftover from last night, one part hadn't turned up) so far today, so hopefully it'll be a nice, quiet day.

I've done my invoice and subject to me having billed correctly for the Notes files (it can only go up, I've erred on the cautious side), then I've done exactly £500-worth of proofreading in June :D

Now, given that I had hardly any proofreading and transcription money in my 13/14 accounts, so these tax amounts I'm putting aside won't be needed until January 2016(!), is there a case for paying them off the cards and then just putting my whole PR&T earnings aside for three months in autumn 2015....?

Are your debts all 0%, I can't recall?

Remember those 3 months future earnings will also be taxable at some point hence ;). How about reducing the tax share a bit, say keep 10% just now. Sit on the fence!
    0% card was £1126.91 / Now £1502.37

    AFD March 2/15 NSD March 2/11 :T

Other debts paid since 1/1/14: £17,005
