That picture made my week - totally chilling and loving life.
Looking good re the proofreading invoice after just 2 shifts and as you said before practice makes perfect so give it a week or 2, whatever it takes.

Great news on the proofreading invoice tally. Can you consider that as "money you weren't expecting to have" and allocate it to the OP'ing on that basis? A few people have recommended the Following to us. I don't think it's on Netflix though? How do you all watch it? We barely use normal tv any more!0% card was £1126.91 / Now £1502.37

'The Following' has just finished its 2nd season showing on Sky Atlantic in the UK. It stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy - very cat and mouse (ex-FBI agent and an incredibly intelligent mass murderer). At the beginning, especially, the two characters play off each other brilliantly.
However, its not for the squeamish. When the TV companies put the warning 'contains scenes of strong, graphic violence' or whatever else they say - they MEAN IT.
I know what you mean about 'normal' TV - I think I watch almost everything from the Planner these days.0 -

They're fairly content boys at the moment, though they'd much prefer to be in the empty field next door where the grass is about 3". Merlin has managed to slither over the fence a couple of times in the last few days (it's an old one, he leans on it to get to the grass he can reach, it sags a bit, he leans more, it sags enough to get a front leg over and then the rest of him sort of slithers over behind!) so last night I put some electric fence up in front of it and hooked it up to a battery. He was Not Chuffed, the ears went out into a proper yellow donkey sulk
No proofreading work for me tonight (<- proper Minx sulk).EssexHebridean wrote: »Great news on the proofreading invoice tally. I think I'm going to, as long as the bead shop sales stay up enough for me not to need the money for day-to-day living. Touch wood the repricing seems to be starting to have an effect, I've had 11 sales this afternoon.0 -

JustAboutThere has covered it allI think the only way you can legally download it free or on subscription is with Sky, though you can buy season 1 and 2 as a download on Blinkbox. I was amazed to see it's only rated a 15!
What else have I been up to today? I had a couple of files to transcribe, one of which had a really annoying buzz all the way through it. Normally these can be edited out with a free program called Audacity, but it couldn't seem to get a grip on this one, so I had to plough through it, giving my ears frequent breaks. The other one wasn't brilliant sound quality, but at least it didn't make me think I had a wasp in my headphones. Tomorrow's files have already been assigned and they're both full verbatim (i.e. type exactly what's said), so I get a slightly higher rate
It was library van day as well, so I had half an hour of Final Fantasy XIII while I waited for them to arrive - that was my mini bank holiday0 -
'The Following' only rated a '15'?! Which idiot is doing the classifying? It's got some of the most graphic violence I've ever seen on TV - it's why I could only 'face' watching it when I wasn't feeling too down myself. If it wasn't for the fact it was really well-written and made you want to know what happened to the characters, I think I would have given up halfway through the first series. Especially, where there were bits of the plot that had you thinking 'who would follow this person'?
Noisy transcription tapes are a pain, even with good headphones. Years ago I was temping for a chap overseeing construction of a large building. He'd do his site visit with his dictation machine. I was happily typing away when I had the sound of a steel girder come crashing down in my headphones. Why he couldn't have rewound slightly to overwrite that portion I'll never know. I just remember literally jumping in my seat and yanking the headphones off (and cursing the boss) - who was otherwise a very nice man.0 -
JustAboutThere so sorry but that did make me laugh! I did dictation typing once for someone who didn't give a damn what you heard, so coughs, sneezes, and even the sound of him scratching his...well, I shall leave that to your imagination...it all came straight into my poor little ears!
Tempted to see if I can track down The Following now - sounds quite good, and I can always hide behind MrEH for the grisly bits! :rotfl:

A steel girder??? Crikey, that must have given you a shock!! Today's files had nothing ear-churning in them, but an hour's worth of full verbatim files is really quite taxing on the brain because I'm so used to rephrasing things into grammatically-correct sentences that to start typing absolutely everything that comes out of the speakers' mouths, e.g. 'I, I think, um, that, that's the best, er, worst way to, to do things, you know' instead of the usual 'I think that's the worst way to do things', is really quite brain-straining. Fortunately it was a client I'd had files from before and it's stock market-related stuff which I find very interesting, so I got through it a little more easily than I might have otherwise.
I also had quite a busy eBay day - £250 banked this morning :T:T:T The tap has switched off again and I only have five orders to go tomorrow at the moment, but I did make time to place a stock order this afternoon, first one in a while.
Mr Minx is out this evening with some friends, so I've had a couple of hours on the PS3 and am now catching up with a bit of telly from the Sky+ box - a BBC programme that was on a while ago called The Treasure Hunters. I'm dribbling over some of the diamonds!0
