Hi all,
A friend of mine is attending this event: http://www.facebook.com/events/466574703369820/
For those who can't use the link, a mother in Bristol was breastfeeding her baby in a cafe, and was asked to move to a corner as she was being 'impolite'. When she left she warned a couple entering the cafe with their baby about what had happened, and was subsequently verbally abused. To protest, she is organising a breastfeeding sit in at College Green on Wednesday 4th July at 12. As I'm not a mother I can't join them, but if anyone is in the area and free at that time I'm sure they would appreciate your support. Some people don't seem to realise that breastfeeding in public is a right protected by UK law!

A friend of mine always joked, that a starbucks isn't a starbucks unless there is someone breastfeeding by the window, and it's true breastfeeding mothers do appear to love the window tables.
I hope their sit in, achieves them the results they are after.Current Debt: 0%.Current House Deposit: 7%.0 -
How terrible for that woman. I must be very lucky that I've never had any negative comments when I feed my DD in public places, but as she's getting older I sometimes worry that someone will offer their opinion!
If I were anywhere near I'd go, but unfortunately we're several hours drive away from Bristol0 -
should be done in private so right on to the couple telling her off0

The law disagrees with you. If it's not something you want to see then avert your eyes.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
I'm lucky in that I've never had problems when BFing my son. I think that if someone were to make awful comments about how I should do it in private, or go elsewhere etc, I'd be asking them if they said that to mothers who bottle feed their child. It's not like I'm whipping my bazoomas out to show off. I'm feeding my child. When you see a mother breast feeding their child, there is usually very little flesh on display - maybe a bit of tummy.
Breast feeding is a perfectly normal and natural thing to do, and those who want to do it and are able to do it shouldn't feel embarrassed about doing so.If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:0 -

Sorry, badly worded - it wasn't the couple who 'told her off' - they left the cafe so as not to get the same treatment. The woman was harassed by someone who worked at the cafe who followed her and shouted at her. A lawyer has confirmed that she has a good case of bringing charges of harassment. Breastfeeding is not some shameful act that should be done in a toilet or that should keep a woman effectively chained within a few minutes' journey from her home; if a baby gets hungry he or she needs to be fed.
Now shove off back to your cave to grumble about uppity women thinking they're some kind of actual humans...

If feeding in public is obvious, then it's being done incorrectly. So easy to drape a shawl over one shoulder and no one should ever know the baby is feeding. That way everyone's happy.anon123456 wrote: »should be done in private so right on to the couple telling her off0 -
Why should she 'drape a shawl'?? (Do people still own shawls??!;)) She has nothing to be ashamed of - she is feeding her child.Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.0
