O2 unlimited data bolt on simplicity contract. Not so unlimited.

Thanks guys, I'm on a simplicity contract so I can easily leave.
It says Unlimited not Unlimited with a star or Unlimited until O2 thinks that somehow I'm affecting other customers on my account page. I'd post a screen shot but I'm not allowed!
I can't find a term or a condition that says I'm limited, I've searched many times.
Three in my area is actually very bad because they seem to have lack of back haul due to the limits of internet in the area full stop, but I agree otherwise on speed!
It is unlimited, but they do have a fair us policy which is well over 1gb, my colleague used 11gb in one month (not intentionally) and they sent him a text, my bro was blatantley 'abusing' it he was not using that much but somehow he feels downlaoding DVDs constantly is not in breach, quite rightly they terminated the data on his account, mine is unlimited on simplicity too, but to be honest nowadays even with a smartphone I struggle to use 300mb of sensible useage.0 -
There's a line between excessive usage because of downloading DVDs and using it for activities like Skype to friends/contacts around the world.
As I just said on another forum, as regards my usage, if they're struggling to cope with capacity, why are they happy to roll out speeds faster than the average broadband connection in the UK? That encourages heavier use, and also suggests to me that it can be used for more than browsing just "mobile" web pages.
What about LTE? Do you suggest they cap it then when they're advertising speeds faster than BT Infinity...? Yeah we've got LTE, but you can't do much with it because you'll affect other customers, so no Youtube, Skype or other things like that!
4GB in a month is tiny amounts of data by today's standards, and that would have had naff all affect on any customers as the peak speed I could achieve should I have wanted to really abuse is about 1mbps due to being in a poor signal area.0 -

So are you using the data from your mobile via your laptop? If so this is probably against O2's terms.0 -

He's not tethering (and O2 allow it in any case):dj_andy wrote:And before you shout at me about tethering, I'm using a modified Atrix (i.e CM7) and it is not booting into the normal webtop mode which some people would consider as tethering
I'm with dj_andy here, unlimited should mean unlimited.
Have you decided what you're going to do yet?0 -

My phone has a laptop docking station, but I'm not booting into the linux distro that it normally invokes, but rather using a blown up screen size effectively
I'll actually argue that because I'm using my phone even if I did use that that it shouldn't technically be classed as teathering.
The move to giff gaff on a permanent basis might be an option, or maybe three with their one plan (more of a viable option!)
What I find more amusing is when you challenge O2 to define what they mean by "Data", which actually means in the terms of computers "The quantities, characters, or symbols on which operations are performed by a computer, being stored and transmitted in the form of electrical signals and recorded on magnetic, optical, or mechanical recording media" so that means anything that uses the internet in my book, but O2 can define it as web browsing, and emails only. And also what is excessive, they give me the whole cobblers "most people don't use over 1GB". Some people do, and they should be able to accommodate for this, as i'm not their, and I quote average "consumer".0 -

I'm not so sure as many do not break 1gb or even 500mb, typically several times per day I will check my email, facebook, browse a couple of forums, bbc news, the weather updates 4 times per day, I may use the traffic monitor 1hr per day, check my bank accounts, however when I was tethering to my netbook and typically constant between 0830-1730 the usage was still under 1gb.
I understand each individual's usage will vary from person to person, and I don't think they will be fussed with the odd heavy hit every now and then,

This really annoys me about companies.
Basically beware of anything that claims "upto" for download limits on your broadband package, because 99% of the time its a lie.
And on mobile broadband (including mobile data) unlimited is a lie as well.0 -

When I have broadband at home, I use my wifi on my phone so that it's on my local network, same as when I am at work.
Its fine if you don't take advantage of your phone's features, I don't normally go over 1GB in a month, but the time when I need to use this "unlimited" data because its "unlimited" its actually limited, contradicting the definition of the word "unlimited". This is because of my lack of fixed connection, my general usage is done on my phone until such time that I get a fixed connection (albeit to a very reduced degree because of the speed limitations more than anything).
Once I get my fixed line it will be back to 1GB or less, but still, they're not meeting the criteria of "Unlimited". And that's my point.
What also annoys me is the way they lie and say "You're affecting other customers experience"... how in hell is using 4GB over a couple of weeks going to impact on anyone? I'm not maxing out the mast with some crazy hack thus slowing everyone else down am I?0
