Ahhh i see the issue now, Your 23 and the insurance quote for your son is astronomical.
Possibly down to his age. At least 17 so you had him when you were 6?

Or your trying to insure your car in your dads name. More likely.

It will end in tears. Happens too often these days.

I would seek to clarify whether main driver is derived from the number of miles driven or the number of times the car is driven.

Why do you say that ? Ive will explain to the insurance company, I will tell them that my son will use the car to attend work 3 days a week, which is 10min drive from home, and maybe go out once or twice with friends.

But Ill be the main driver and policy holder.
Your son is using car three days a week and once or twice per week to go out with friends. Thus he is using the car four / five days per week which does not leave much time for you to be "the main driver".

If son has an accident the insurers may investigate and could come to the same conclusion as me and determine this to be fronting.

Looking at both posts, have you tried a quote through the quidco cashback site, and LV directly? They're good for younger drivers at the monent. Put in a false name, close address, real history, false name as your dad as a second driver, mum as third, Park on the road if you can actually park there, biggest excess, say £1000, and pay annually. You're probably better starting another thread on the insurance forum if you want any more help, but don't put your dad down as policyholder and main driver. If you have a claim, it'll be thrown out, and they'll cancel his policy, not yours. He won't thank you.

Not only that, but the OP's father could be prosecuted for Insurance Fraud, and the OP could be prosecuted for driving without insurance.

If the OP thinks insurance is expensive now, they should try it with an IN10 on their licence.
  • i think the reason OP hasnt been back is because weve caught them out lying.

it coul,d be a possability that the OP's son did infact use the account to find out some facts about their own insurane then the original account holder tried to seek some advice regarding putting it in their name and try and justify that they they wouldnt be fronting hence kept asking WOULD IT BE LEGAL to do this and that.

OP if this is the case then NO IT WOULD NOT BE LEGAL, you have a car as a daily driver, a second car then would not become your daily driver as you cant use both equally each week in miles and frequency of usuage as the second car would be tied up to your "son" in work, and when you do have it the first car would become unused..

weve discovered a classic case of fronting, just imagine how quick the insurers could pick up on it. theres loads of ways they can discover it without a claim for an accident put forward to them.

they reguarly check registered keepers with the DVLA when theres a parent on the insurance with a younger more riskier driver, when they discover discrepancies, such as you putting down your the keeper of the vehicle but your son is and they check the registered keeper is the named driver they write to you to provide evidence of ownership if you cant provide anything such as V5c in your name with a purchase reciept the cancel the policy and investigate you for fraud, once discovered, you end up in court for fraud, then when you convicted, they proceed to the small claims for the outstanding policy amount as if it were the riskier driver being main driver as it should have been.

now, IN10 (drving a vehicle without third party risks) may not be on the cards if the car wasnt driven when the policy was cancelled, but if continue to use whilst they request more evidence from you (the insurers) could result in one or the other being pulled and done for no insurance, wich usually carries a 6 points and a £200 fine impound fee's and storage and correct policy insurance to be bought, if the the police deem it they could roll onto sending you a summons to court if you have a record of this in the past and this is where IN10 comes in.

but as youve not come back to post ONLY READ youve been caught out. had you actually asked the question what is fronting, what would happen, and then described insurance policy issue we could actually given you a load of tips in how to reduce the premium without actually being illegal.

    Not true.

If the details given on the proposal amount to fronting, the company may refuse a claim, in which case the additional driver could be prosecuted for driving without insurance.

like i said read it again.

in10 may not be on the cards if the person responsable left the car where it was and didnt drive it, when the policy is cancelled.
so if theyt leave it there there should be no accidents right!
