The post asked for assistance in a particular area, not a general discussion on the pros and cons of debit cards and cash cards.
As I said, that's forums for you! No one is forcing you to read the 'irrelevant' posts!!

I do, however, recognise the irony in my criticism of people going off topic as I help spin the thread 180 degrees around . . . :(

I,m fine with debit cards but I dont like my wages and direct debit,s going through one.

How about Yorkshire building society cash transactor account?Wages can be paid in,direct debits set up and you could also set up a standing order into a debit card. All this on a plain bit of plastic.
I have a deep burning indifference

The OP is not asking you to know why he believes what he believes. What has it got to do with you?

The OP had a rant in the original post with nothing but a rhetorical question. It is quite reasonable for others to discuss and challenge the basis for the rant.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • I think the reason so many people are going 'huh?' is because a debit card does everything that a cash card does, but more stuff besides. So obviously a person could have a debit card, but use it exclusively for taking money out of the machine and nothing else.

I'm sure there are scenarios where someone would prefer a cash card only though, off the top of my head there's the fraud issue, and also situations where someone has a condition like bipolar, and wishes to restrict how much they can spend when they're not feeling so well. (I'm not speculating on OP here, just in general!). No doubt there's other reasons too.

If it's just a case of contrariness though, then I think that's kind of tough, it's up to the bank what products they offer, and stuff does move on, the days of the cheque are numbered, postal orders aren't that common, bank books are rare, etc etc. Perhaps cashcards are going the same way?

most of us are small fish in a big pond. We're unlikely to stand out enough for the information banks/retailers gather to be noticed by human eyes. There are computer programmes that monitor what we look at and what we purchase and unless you do everything by the yellow pages, in person and with cash then the chances are you're on a database. Its just the world we live in i'm afraid

But at the end of the day, I'm sure there are many people like, I don't really care if I'm on databases and we all know that pretty much everything is going to require a credit or debit card eventually. Hell there is an airline in the US that takes card in-flight and I've even come across a petrol station that only takes card as well. I'm sure it will be the same here shortly.

People that don't use cards can often get on my nerves though, time after time I am end up with some woman or man in front of me at Tescos that has to pay £90, has no card and is rooting around for change and notes.

Sorry, but how is paying with a handful of notes slower than paying with a card

When you pay with a card:- you insert the card, wait for it to be recognised, input your PIN, wait for it to be processed, remove the card and take the receipt.

When I pay by cash:- I hand the cashier 5x £20 notes, they hand me a £10 note and my receipt.

    Which is faster?

Depends how much rubbish is in your handbag.

I don't carry a handbag, but even if I did, surely I would spend exactly the same amount of time finding my purse/wallet, whether I wanted to take a card, or some cash, out of it?

Unless people routinely carry loose cash in their handbags
