UKs cheapest houses

My plan is to buy a very cheap house in the UK.

I have found several areas where houses can be purchased under 29 thousand pounds.

Lincolnshire, Cumbria, Burnley are all places where cheap property can be had but I've settled on South Wales.

A house can be purchased out right for 29k but there are renovation projects available by auction with guide prices of 15k + that I am looking at bidding on.

I've never been to auctions before and I'm wondering has anyone else here been through this process before and has any experience or advice they can give me? :)

which parts of S Wales are you looking at? Beware, if you dont know the area you could end up with a house you wouldnt want to live in or you cant actually rent out

Very much the same case for Burnley. The houses there are cheap for a good reason in that no-one wants to live there.

If you're thinking of buying a house in Wales which you aren't going to live in, read this article and read up on Meibion Glyndwr first:

You had me at your proper use of "you're".

I intend on living there - running my webshop and not having to pay rent any more :)

I'm not too worried about rough areas as I can handle myself. I lived on the streets for years before I got my act together and started a job and business. :)

    Granted I will research the area first though;
On my list to check for are flooding
Very anti social behaviour of neighbours

I know they are cheap for a reason but I've come from the gutter and I need cheap to build myself up and get money together from my business for other investments.

Ive been using the search criteria of 40 miles distance from Caldicot.

There are places in villages about 20 miles from Newport etc that are up for auction guide priced at 15k

They need complete renovation but I am a skilled builder so thats no problem for me and my friends. ;)

Even though you may have endured extremely tough times is the past please do not underestimate how depressing it might be living somewhere where every single one of your neighbours may have no job and no prospect of one, ever.

I'd be interested to hear what your research methods may be with regard to possible anti-social behaviour. In my experience people can be pretty tight-mouthed about it
  • I live in Newport so would be interested to see which houses in particular youd be interested in.

I would go in the local shops and talk to the people at the counters about the area and let them open up hopefully

In specific theses houses are up right now... so similar to this
    rightmove /property-for-sale/property-23345520.html
    rightmove /property-for-sale/property-23345523.html

Its more a means to an end for me - would be first property and a chance to save money for a better place. I doubt I'd be there for more than a few years before selling the renovated property and moving onto a better one with the money I save while there.

It won't let me post links as I'm new here :( you can copypaste the link above tho - its rightmove.co.uk
