My choice is British Gas or PowerGen?

Living in NW Scotland (SHE area), currently on Npower standard rate.
Looking through U Switch etc. my choice seems to be between British Gas (well, Scottish Gas), Click Energy 2 saving me £148 a year, or PowerGen Electricity Online Extra Saver 2 saving £131.
PG will get me Tesco clubcard points, and BGs customer service is pants. So is there anythingelse I should look at to make my decision.
Have Npower dropped or announced a upcoming drop?

Hi AHL...these people keep an eye on price changes...
http://www.ukpower.co.uk/price%2Bupdates.asp
Even at £1000 p.a....tesco points would only give you £10.
altho think perhaps there is an introduction bonus!!
Would you eventually benefit from the huge windfarm near Stornaway ?..http://www.guardian.co.uk/renewable/Story/0,2763,605981,00.html
..and if you're thinking of green..SSE have all the hydro generation.0 -
I should conisider the timing, which is not now. Not all the main players have declared their reduced prices yet."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0

And these people list all tariffs......http://www.energyhelpline.com/energy/rg_home.aspx?aid=107
Can you get EBICO up there? They are part of Southern Electric0 -
The problem I have with Poweregn is they encourage high consumption by giving you Tesco points based on what you use. The higher the usage the more points you receive, which defeats the object as we want cheaper bills!
Powergen's staywarm and Age Concern tariff also encourages high usage which will add to an already affected climate.
Some providers do encourage lower usuage which I feel is the way forward.
So for that reason I would not switch to Powergen.
Thanks

Whatever your smoking I want some.
Never realised that powergen put a gun to your head and told you to use more.
Its a scheme they have had running with tescos for a couple of years so that any tesco customers with powergen can't get more from them.
Under your same example that means you shouldn't shop at tesco whatsoever because there encouraging you to eat more to get more points. Where would your points system stop.
EDF have nectar points - Does that mean there doing the same thing.0 -
Thanks all for replies. No, the windfarms on the Isle of Lewis (if they ever get them, the RSPB are biggest objectors saying birds will fly into them! But they are not objecting to the wind farms in Shetland - maybe they have smarter birds...)
NPowers price reduction (all 3% of it!) wil be at the end of April.
My main choice for this area is Scottish Hydro, BG, PG and NPower, others are always consistantly more expensive/not available.
I have looked through my last few bills, I averaged 10,000 units over last year. At present, USwitch (and EnergyHelpline.com) say BG Click Energy 2 will save £190, PGs Electricity Online Extra Saver £178. Scottish Hydros first tarriff doesnt come in till a £74 saving.
I'm not sure there are any "main players" who cover this area who haven't declared yet.
Given the complaints about BG customer service I might forgo the £12 saving and go for PGenI suppose I should just wait one more month till NPower do issue their reductions, tho I doubt they will be enough.
The day volcanoes stop filling the atmosphere with CO2 is the day I'll live in a mud hut and stop using electricity0 -

Columbia's finest Gal!
I can catergorically confirm I will not be switching to Powergen if they use armed weapons to blackmail me. ONLY KIDDING!!!!!
Why don't P/G allocate a set amount of points regardless of consumption? Obvious really.....
I believe EDF reward you with a set amount of Nectar points each quarter purely for loyalty. Now that's an additional product with egalitarianism.
Tesco like Sainsburys give you something for nothing which is fab, but c'mon buying a couple more bagels to reach that ilusive points milestone won't jeopardise the enviroment will it?

Tescos offer 1 point for every £1
Powergen HAS to offer 1 point for every pound as well.

watch this space...;)
Also it's based on what you pay not what you use, so say if you were to accidentally over pay then ask for a refund...0
