Stand it the right way up (that is, root down) in a bowl in the fridge0

Have the green rectangular tupperware container with the grid. Grow my own lettuce:- lollo rosso salad bowl and cos but find it tastes better(crisper) having been in the container for a day and lasts for about 4 days without deteriorating.0

Also, what are broccoli seeds and where do you get them? Which are your favourite and most successful for sprouting. I know - questions, questions questions but I buy bags from the supermarket and they are the only thing I end up throwing out as I haven't found a way to keep them fresh before they begin to look rancid.
(Sorry for being off topic.)
Mung beans are great for sprouting i just bung them in a bowl dont put them in direct sunlight or where there is a draft (i just leave them on the kitchen side) rinse them 2x a day until they sprout (3/4 days)0 -
Hi all,
Can someone tell me what is the best way to keep shredded lettuce fresh ... ?
I usually get a lettuce and shred the whole thing up but within a day or so it has gone all horrible. What sort of container should it be in and I'm assuming it's best kept in the fridge ... ?
Any help pls ... ?
ps, also any tips on keeping sliced onions, grated carrots, etc ... would be most appreciated ...

last week I just cut off what I wanted to eat, and the lettuce lasted a week, so maybe shredding isn't such a good idea?0

How do you shred it? Metal knives turn lettuce brown so you should just tear or use a plastic knife. other than that I would just keep it in tupperware.0

I find lettuce keeps longer if you don't shred it or separate it. I sometimes put the lettuce in a bowl with a small amount of water in the bottom, it seems to keep longer with the stalk bit in the water.Dum Spiro Spero0

This is what Lakeland are selling, if this isn`t for you, maybe you could devise something similar

Hi doom,
I find that shredded lettuce 'dies' really quickly so i split it into individual leaves, wash well in cold water,shake/drain as much of the water off as possible and pop into a large plastic bag and keep in the fridge. Twist the top of the bag closed and it should keep 5/6 days.

any fruit or veg you cut will deteriorate faster than if you keep it whole, the edges will eventually oxidise no matter what you cut it with & the smaller you cut it, the faster it'll go bad because there are more cut edges exposed to the air
what kind of lettuce do you buy? I usually buy cos/romaine & find they keep for ages (maybe a couple of weeks) sealed whole in their bag in the salad drawer of the fridge, I just take out what I need & re-seal it
Lakeland sell bags that keep produce fresh for longer, & they work quite well, but I doubt if they'd work with cut/shredded stuff0
