Omg!! Vodafone are abysmal!!!

Options
I have 3 contracts with Vodafone, 1 for me, 1 for my wife and a data plan with an iPad.

From the start:

1) I switched jobs and I wasn't going to have enough money to pay my bill so I cancelled the direct debit.

2) I was working away to train for my new job. Vodafone called my wife to ask to set up a DD, she said, call my husband, he deals with this. They did not call me.

3) Vodafone cut us off! I couldn't even call 191 to find out why! I called from my work phone and they told me that there was no payment set up. Why didn't they call me to sort this out? They don't know. I set up a DD, should be ok now.

4) 1 month later, I get a text asking me to set up a DD. I call them. No DD set up. They say since it's a joint bank account, the other account holder needs to sign a counterpart. This is sent to me, we sign it and send it back immediately.

Why wasn't I told this before!?!

5) 1 month later, I get a text asking me to set up a DD. I call them. No DD set up. I set it up yet again. They assure me that it is done and I won't need to call again. Hmmmm.....

6) 1 month later, I get a text asking me to set up a DD. I call them. No DD set up. I set it up YET AGAIN!!!! I complain to a manager who offers me £20 compensation. I refuse it as it's insulting that I spend over £120 a month with them and have spent about 6 hours collectivity wasting my time on the phone with them.

7) 1 month later, I get a text asking me to set up a DD. I call them. No DD set up. Are you f$%*^ing kidding??! This time I seriously complain. I post on their Twitter to make it public what I think of them, I speak to a manager who says he doesn't know why a DD wasn't set up but once again he assures me that it is done.

8) Guess what.... so I call them again. I have lost the will to live. They then tell me that the bank have been rejecting the payments for months which is why it doesn't work.

WHY WASN'T I TOLD THIS BEFORE?!?!

I get a different story each time I call, there is no consistency.

The bottom line is I just want to leave. I hate them. HATE!

Is there ANY way I can get out of my contract without paying the outstanding £1200?

I am SO SO SO dissatisfied with them.

Maybe I just need cheering up.

So you cancelled the direct debit without telling them? Why did they phone your wife - is she the account holder?
They cut you off as you didn't pay them, you cant coplain at that. you knew they hadn't been paid and that you had not set up a new direct debit.

the rest is poor but at any point did you check that the bank had received direct debot instructions?
  • I don't know why they phoned her, the accounts are in my name. She told them to call me but they didn't.

They wouldn't have cut me off if they'd called me when she asked them to and I would have sorted it out there and then.

I didn't know that I had to check with the bank about the DD. They didn't tell me.

The problem could be that because you cancelled the original DD instruction, the bank is rejecting every new attempt to set it up because they assume Vodafone are trying to force an instruction you do not want. You should contact the bank to make sure this is not the case before continuing any complaints with Vodafone as they could be fulfilling all their obligations.

And surely they just phoned one of the numbers on the account, it just happened to be the number that your wife had. Surely Vodafone are assuming you have both phones if they are in your name, so were not wrong in contacting your wife first. They should have followed up with you though.
  • I appreciate what I need to do on my behalf, I'm just frustrated that I wasn't told this before.

If they deal with DD's all day, surely it would be second nature to say 'check with your bank' etc.

So let me get this right...

You can't honour the contract you signed up to, cancelled the DD and you're complaining because they cut you off when you didn't pay, refused to talk about your personal affairs with a third party and required you both to sign the DD which is a requirement of your bank?

Sorry there's only one person in the wrong here and it isn't Vodafone. Perhaps if you stopped trying to live the life of a plastic millionaire you'd be able to afford a paltry phone bill.

We have a joint bank account and have never had to have both of us agree to a direct debit, sounds a little odd to me but I guess other banks could be different?
  • It was your fault in the first place in cancelling the DD. OP is just trying to get out of the £1200 outstanding balance.

You may have this price plan, but didn't pay so where do they gain?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Seriously, I'm not that stupid. I know if you don't pay a bill, you get cut off. If you read my original post, it says that they contacted my wife and not me, so I didn't know anything about it.
