Bedroom Tax?

Hi, my mum has lived in the 3 bedroom Council family home since 1993, me and my sister have both grown up now and moved out.

My mum is a full time carer for my Schizophrenic uncle who just lives just over the road from her in a one bedroom Council flat. (Saving the tax payer thousands as it would cost a hell of a lot more if he was in care!)
My mum also has 3 dogs and one rabbit that she has had for years and they are very much part of the family.
Sadly when this bedroom tax come's into place in April 2013, my mum just wont have the £25 a week to stay at the house, as she is a full time carer and cannot afford it! Also what is gonna happen to the dogs and Rabbit? (who are all approaching retirement age now) most of all we are not sure if my uncle is gonna manage without the security of my mum living just over the road from him if she has to move, this will cause all kinds of problems!

My mum has been worried sick for a while now since this announcement to the point where she is very down and i am having to go and look after my uncle quite a lot (which i dont really need!) as my mum is finding it a struggle because is constantly stressed with worry (to the point that im worried about her doing something stupid to herself now! she is also Diabetic and im worried that the stress will not be helping that neither as she is not eating properly!)
Have this so called Government thought any of this through properly and do you think that there will be a re-shake of this Law before it become's active?

Cheers for any advice

I'm not quite sure what help you think the CAB can provide in getting the law changed.

I suggest you contact your MP.
  • Is there a reason why uncle cannot move in with mum?

As for the dogs and the rabbit, if they are under 35 they will each qualify for the shared bedroom rate, should they have to move out.

Thanks for your replies, my uncle cannot live with my mum as he is just too much bother to be living with full time, (Personal reasons mainly but very stressful) he did used to live with my Grandad before he passed away in 2004 and then he moved in with my nan and she passed away 3 years later in 2007 so now he is living opposite my mum, if he lived with my mum, she would probably be dead a lot sooner than she should be. But he has always been adamant that he does not want to go into hospital or he would commit suicide in there! (and he would do it) So we do our best as a family to help out. Things are, or were actually running quite well until that Thatcher wannabe started throwing his weight around and bullying the working class!!

Im sure there will Riots over this his more recent plans put into place!

    and the sooner the better!!

I will be at the front along with the 3 dogs and the rabbit!! (joke)

And Wywyth i wasn't looking for the CAB to try and change the law!
i was looking for advice, if there was any that would maybe try and help this problem, as i am sure that they are aware of more exceptions, if any that the Government have made for this pathetic Ruling that is gonna cause uproar throughout the Country!!!

It's not gonna cause uproar throughout the country, it's going to free up houses that are desperately needed.

There is no positive help - the fact is the OP's mother is going to be affected by the changes.

Thanks for your replies, no my mum is not entitled to Dla, she had a decent job that she had to give up to look after my uncle after my nan died. It looks as tho we will just have to hope and pray that Cameron the Thatcher wannabe rethinks his actions and maybe starts concentrating on sorting the immigrant Crisis out before he starts picking on his own working class people!! The guy is a total Control freak and the sooner this Coalition collapses and Labour get back in, the better for the working class people of Britain!!
