I don't rate German cars that highly myself. Audi, VW, BMW... it's a badge. The engineering could never compete with Volvo or SAAB and they often have a worse / harder ride quality than french cruisers.
Not only will a Volvo engine live forever, most of them burn almost no oil either (which has been a recurring theme in the ops car in this thread).
French cars without a doubt can be a bit screwy but if you select a good well built model they are nowhere near as bad as their reputation.0 -

.
No idea on the others but sould disagree for Scoobies. Mine ran 300bhp with the standard dump valve and even Prodrive don't feel the need to change it when they tweak them.
The recirc OEM part is by far the best on those cars.

personally i wouldnt have a dump valve in a turbo car no matter what the make model or year, but if someone wants one for a scooby or a nissan or a mitsi the only ones i would trust would be a dual port that recurcs just to have a tschhh.
i know what engine the OP has, as long as he has the propper kit there will be no issues. i.e the solonoid, the harness kit, the turbo DV adaptor converter, the vac pipe, the solonoid harness plate, the vac adaptor and retaining clip for intake vac pipe he will have no issues, plus if running stock boost, used the soft spring, and not the tougheneded spring for running hybrid turbo boost.0 -
so where did the story go after all this, sounds like the balance shaft on the oil pump (well know expensive prob with the 2.0l diesels)if so all the dump valves in the world would'nt have made a difference.warranty should cover it0

The 1.8 coil pack is a 3-5000 mile thing and plagues all VAG 1.8 turbo engines.
Fitting a Dump Valve was not the best idea as the Turbo comes to a sudden halt, if they were anything other than a gimmick they would be fitted from new.
This could also be effecting the emissions and be throwing the light of doom.
A independent VW garage will advise the oil pump be replaced at 50,000, so it has done well to get to 70,000 .0 -

Quite typical of most threads on MSE, a final solution is never published, the thread never updated, neglected by the OP like a red headed stepchild.0

I have to say its very annoying.
People spend a lot of time of these threads offering advice and guidance, for the O/P rarely to bother coming back with the outcome.0
