It can effect insurance, I had several non performance mods (and quite a few performance ones) on my celica. Anything can and will effect insurance in the event of an accident. Even graphics can void a policy if not on the policy doc in writing.

i know what your getting at and i'm not saying the insurers wouldnt attempt to void the policy, theres avenues to explore in this event such as FOS etc.

Very interesting thread, I will follow this to it's conclusion but so far it appears that the warranty is a waste of time and that at worst the OP will be paying for the repair. Do we know what the exact issue and fault is yet and a likely cost?

well we have established that OP didnt overfill the car. put a dump valve on it, and now the dealer is trying to wriggle around the aspect that they warrenty is void due to the valve and the car is nolonger their problem.

in this case, instead of dallying about with the warranty and having the an independant look at it, i would get onto the finance company and ask for their support. as well as formally writing down the faults and asking the garage to deal with the issue vuia recorded letter to cover my own backside.

Yes i have the correct insurance, as its the same insurance i had for my previous car that was traded in as part ex.... this also bring me on to say that the sales manager said to me that i would only normaly be asked by them to pay half of the bill towards the coil pack repair if my old car hadnt have cost them £300.00 to return to standard... this amount stated keeps changing. Something is not sitting right here.... Why would they be paying the bill of the coil packs in the first place?

Forget the warranty, a coil pack that fails inside two weeks should be replaced free of charge under sale of goods
  • just trying to work out a way to blame this on a french car

Perhaps being a German car it entered France on it's journey to Britain. It therefore caught "French Car Disease".

On the subject of the coil packs I had a Skoda Octavia and it was forever getting through them. I had six changed in 84000 Miles.
    Iva started Dec 2018.

    Why even fit a BOV?

If it did make any difference to performance it will void insurance if not declared and quite rightly void warranty.

If performance isn't the reason, why do you want to make people look at you and make prejudgements about the size of your anatomy?

And £9k + a Seat Leon for a 6 year old petrol car with 74k on the clock = ripped off, no matter how German the car is, and especially not when it's a well known coil-pack blower.
You could have bought an S4 for that money!

    jbna4 where abouts are you?

If its gone in to limp mode there will be a fault code, need that.
On my own i have even cleared with VAS what VW dealerships failed to do, better than Vagcom best £200 you could spend on any VAG.

Wise advice by Atrix and Lum.
Realistically should be putting a recirculating dump valve on.
Any service history? Whether actually done or not.

Coil packs improved greatly from 2003, had one go in 15k but that was a s/h one put in. About £11 to £50 each depending where you go.
Many things can cause it to go in to limp, if your local i can put my VAS on it, see what codes come up.

Its a limited edition DTM, though a bit steep still.

I paid 9850 altogether including the seat Leon, I didn't trade that aswell as the 9850! And I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne,
The car is a 2.0t and the blow off valve is actually mounted on the turbo housing, which is a solenoid controlled valve which only releases as told to do so by the engine management system

Sorry JB i am about 180 mile away.

First things first, play safe and put back as standard.
Then remove the negative from the battery, key with ignition on (dash lights) and door open, leave for about an hour to reset ECU. Connect back up again same order. Either of two things will happen, it will be fine then resort back in to limp or just stay in limp mode.
Old codes will still be stored and will need clearing when problem is addressed.

If car runs, take it to a respectable garage and ask them to check the faults and print out a report, usually £25 while you wait.

Incidently my limp turned out to be a leaky intercooler which didnt show on a pressure test.
